Toyota Tundra V8 vs Corvette (racing story)

yep, a Toyota Tundra V8, a truck against a vette both V8. i wasnt driving, my big brother was. We pull up to this V8 Vette, the 1999+ Vettes. We were on our way to drop off my cuzin and lives in the middle of now where and this road is perfectly straight for 5 miles with a stoplight, and this vette pulls up to us. light turns green and he revs it, we didnt think he would take it seriously. The back wheels burn out on the vette, we had a low launch bcuz we thought he wasnt goin to race us. So my brother revs the Tundra V8 engine hard, i could see and hear the vette had clutched to 2nd and kept going, by this time, i think we were going 90-100 mph. Our Speedo said 110 for topspeed, but i think we went 120, this truck is a rear-wheel drive, no all wheel drive. VRRROOOOMM, we pass him. First ever vette kill. We also have burnt ricers. This Toyota is one strong Toyota V8.

That must be one horrible driver. I raced some guy's father's Tundra with my Z28. He didn't even get me on launch. I beat him by 6-7 car lengths (I gave up after I could barely see him in my rear view mirror). This story sounds like he just gave up.

it wasnt a fly-by, we beat that vette. if u dont believe me, find some V8 Tundras and race them. Yesterday nite we raced a Civic HB (ricer) and killed him, and i think that will be our last race...i THINK

Doesn't matter any ways, they're limited to the amount of power they can produce for safety reasons.

Also, Toyota doesn't want to spend the money to develope a motor just for this type of racing. They'd rather spend the money else where. They'll spend a few seasons here in the Sears Craftsman Truck series, then move onto NASCAR.


I've known they were going into the Truck series since two years ago. I'm good friends with one of the guys who works at TRD and used to build the F1 motors. Now he works with various other projects at TRD.

Why do people insist on racing their pickup trucks? I'm not talkin pro level here. I'm more or less talking about the bigass Ford F150s all stock with 24" rims and NOS in the cabin. We've got a word for those around here... They're called deathboxes. I just don't get that obcession. They go around and try to race Civics and shit and it's like wtf are you thinking. It's a 4banger verses an engine twice that size... I mean seriously... It is my personal belief that trucks should be used for mudding and cars should be used for racing. ut that's just me.

And its equipped H-TEC, new thing out you can only get it from japan. Its like a supercharger, but hampsterfied. Hampsters are also used as pistons because using real pistons are too inefficient.

He's telling the truth. Tundra's beat my v8 vette all the time, even with my zz4 crate!

There is always that one in a billion chance that the driver of the vette bogged down after he got started, missed a shift, then put it in 6th from second and forgot to take his foot off the clutch while slowing down for a pothole he wanted to avoid. Then the Tundra might end up ahead. Beyond that, unless it was a 84 vette with a no-legged man behind the wheel - no chance at all.
