My cousin has a 98 GSR and he is wondering if he takes out his catalic converter and replace it with a straight pipe, would he lose any power from taking the converter out???? We were told that IF we swap the CAt with a TEST pipe that it would nt be in our advantage to gain any HP since there is another RESTRICTION pipe after the CAT Converter..... NEEDS SOME INPUT !!!

Wrong, If you replace your CAT with a "Test Pipe" It will be to your advantage....just note that its a big fine if your ever caught with it on the streets and a chance your check engine light going on....I also havent decided wheater to go Comptech High Flow Cat or thier Test Pipe....if you go with a Test Pipe let me know how it does... :)

is the straight pipe even legal? i say go for the comptech or h/p cat better to be safe than sorry, and besides that why u want to add to the smog crisis. i seen cars that blow smoke out their cars almost a 1/4 of a mile and i have to breathe that crap, shit piss me off just thinking about it. and yeah i think thier is another restriction pipe after the cat, i remember seeing it on my full catback greddy exhaust, but the most important one is the cat converter i believe cuz it help reduces the emissions

test pipes and most high flow cat's are illegal, at least here. but which one would give more power ? cause a test pipe is just so much cheaper

High flow cats are not illegal. They do the same as an oem cat. Straight pipes and test pipes are illegal seeing as they do not convert exhaust gasses.

almost all the highflow cats i have seen say for off road use only. check out http://solar.innercite.com/comptech/250105.html . test pipes give more power right ?

Correct the comptech is not CARB approved.....the only advantage of this is it still looks like a CAT vs. the Test Pipe where you know its a "Test Pipe".....and yes the Test Pipe will definatly give you more power due to you losing the honey comb inside the Cat but its easier to fool a Cops with the High Flow Cat... :)

well i got a bomz high flow cat on my car but the check engine light is still coming on i dunno if its cause that or somekind of engine problem since i just bought the car but in terms of speed i felt some difference after i had it installed. i say go for the cat it's much safer on ur part.

it can't be from the cat, it has to be something b4 that like ur oxygen sensor, or the others sensors. get a diagnostic, it should tell u whats causing it to go on

if ur check engine is on, it means that its reading a bad o2 sensor. the reason being is that it isn't plugged in (talking about a test pipe), so it reads it like its shot.
i say go for the test-pipe, nice topend gain, with some slight bottom end loss (lose some back pressure).

But the STOCK exhaust ALREADY have a RESONATOR after the CAT and BEFORE the Muffler...
