i own a 87 crx. i was wondering what would be the cheapest and easiest way to put some horsepower into my car. if you haveany sugeestions for an engine swap, let me know what engine.

what's the bottom line? how much you willin to spend? i run the hell out of my stock d15a3 and am not looking to swap anytime soon..

i'll find my text doc that had more details soon, i'm lazy and don't feel like retyping.. but a stock motor is low comp, dying for boost. so just nos or turbo what you've got. or, there are about 3 motors that drop in and 2 that require B series motor mounts...

the easist engine swap would be a 86-87 acura zc, that is if your car is an si. Because most swaps are fuel injected ones, you would go from 91 to 113 hp. If you looking for more power than a bseries motor would be the way, but just for mounts is around 500 and motors starting around a grand. with the zc it bolts rite in using the acura shiftlinkage, hubs, axles, and I think the drivers side engine mount.
hope this helps

cody vg, thanks for the suggestion about the b-series honda swap. what engine would drop in the easiest. i have a friend that can get me any b-series honda engine for $800 so which one do you think i should get?

1G lew, i plan on staying with the stock d15 for a while until i get the money up to do an engine swap. Thanks for all the info. It is helping out alot.

to go with a b series I personally would do a b16a, although you could even go with a b18 or a b 20 and it would be just about complex.all b series require custom engine mounts and you even have to bang up your engin bay to make room. my reason is the weight factor more weight means slower car. I think I recall the b16 weighing around 150 lbs more than your stock si, also remember our cars dont have power steering so it would show a difference there as well as the suspension.
The motor mounts you can get at hasport, place racing, and hpc. also to let you know you have to get custom half axles made.
hope this helps in your decision.
sweet_crx87 is your crx an si?
also the b16 has 160 stock and plenty of performance parts.

cody_vg, i have a regular crx, it isnt an si. would that effect being able to drop the b-16 into my car?

im almost pretty sure that the only feul injected are the si and if yours is carburated than definetly your car doesnt have a fuel pump or an ecu. which means that theres gonna be alot more work involved.

yeah my engine is carbourated. How much more work would it take and how much money would it cost? oh, i was workin on tryin to get my stock d15 running until i get the money up for the engine swap. the guy i bought it from told me he was almost positive that the timing belt needed to be replaced and that was it. well we tried crankin the engine over just to check and see if the valves were opening up. well the valves didnt open and when i pulled the timing belt cover off the timing belt looked brand new. well when we pulled the cam sprocket off the woodruff key was locked up in the sprocket. does anyone know what caused it and if it could have bent the valves? i would appreciate any help greatly cause im just starting to get into working on cars and i need all the help i can get. thanks.

dude I have an 85 si that I broke the timing belt on too. it was the 2nd engine in that car to do that to me. I took the head off and it definately bent the valves they were actually stuck open.the first time that happened a valve broke off in the cylinder and it put a hole in the piston.
but getting to the carburated part youd have to install a sufficient fuel pump run the wires plumming filter and relays, and with the wiring part for the b16. I think actually that shouldnt be too hard maybe installing a ecu and wiring fram a del sol. too bad you live so far away cuz I have a parts car with the fuel pump and all that im about to get rid of. the b16 swaps pretty expensive it would be worth it. heres some websites to check out about the swap ill try to find others that i have somewhere.

websites to check out www.crxguru.com for motor swap prices. www.hasmotorsport.com for motormounts

hey dude, the timing belt isnt broke on mine though. the timing belt is new i think. it looked like whoever owned the car the car tried to fix it but didnt finish the job. when i was taking the timing belt cover off some of the bolts were already off. when i bulled the bolt ot of the cam sprocket the bolt came right out. but back to my original question, since the timing belt was still good, and the woodruff key sheared off into the cam sprocket do you think the valves would have bent?

the woodruff key is so that the valves dont get bent, and since the key was sheered its kinda a 50/50. if you can put a new key in it and put the cam and belt back on, see if it runs if not do a compression check on it. Im not a proffesional mechanic but Ive had plenty of experience with motors. im betten that when the belt was replaced they didnt have the timing right, and that caused the key to sheer. to make sure the timing is right the crank should be on the compression stroke and at top dead center. which in other terms theres a key on the crank too and it should point up towards the head, now for the cam, the cam gear should have an arrow on it that should point up as well and also 2 lines that should go acros the head. man I hope this dont confuse you. but if it holds compression it should run. ill keep watch on this thread and try to help more.
