This happenend to me about 3 hours ago. It was nice all day and I finally got out of work. So i was driving around enjoying the rest of the sunlight available. I ended up behind this newer 911 maybe a couple years old. We were both taking a left that gets onto a 2 lane lil strip that gets onto RT2/I-190 in MA.
So the light turns green and he goes into the left lane. I go into the right lane cause the ramp i want is the on the right. I wasn't going real fast about 10-15 in first and i start to accelerate once I get out of my turn like i normally do. As soon as I do I hear the guy in the Porsche stomp on it. I immediately stomp on it also. I had to pull out of first almost immediatley(3.73's). Get into second my nose is at the rear of his front tire. When I come out of second I'm about even with him. By 1/2 way through third he was at my rear.
Right before needing to get out of third I got off it. About the same lead maybe a lil more. He just flew by me and got onto his exit so I didn't get to see his face or talk to him.

The only thing that can beat the LS1 is the LS6, THATS IT NOTHING ELSE!!!!!
Good race though. I had unfortunately had a missed opportunity with a Viper today. I'm sitting at light all the way in the left lane, I look ahead of the intersection and there is this red Viper hardtop in the left turn lane, just teasing me cuz I have no way of getting over to follow. Mind you I'm in the Firebird and I never ever see a car like that on the road when I'm in this damn car. :banghead: Why must they always be going in the opposite direction!!!! I was so pissed I want to see one of those cars push it all the way.

Its the V8 you find in 98-02 Camaros and Firebirds, Also Its in the 97-Present Corvettes.
Its an all aluminum 346ci V8, the most advanced V8 a domestic manufacture has ever developed. I say that cause it still uses pushrod technology and still produces very good power outputs.
They also respond very well to modification, although expensive to modify... they make outstanding horsepower numbers.
I might add that they also make great pets.

Wouldn't it be kind of hard to put a v8 in a 911 since the engine is in the back and space is limited?

Hmmm...
How about an early LS1 being driven by a fat guy VS a brand new Mustang Cobra R driven by someone who knows the car perfectly...
Just a thought.
Sounds like you had fun...go find another one! :smokin:

I don't like non-pushrod V-8's either but the Cobra DOHC motors are a lot more advanced domestic V-8 than a LS1. But i definetly agree an LS1 is the most advanced stock pushrod domestic motor.

actually i believe the most advanced chevy 350 would be the LS6 (true very close to the ls1 thogh I just wanted to be picky)
also what about the new 5.7 hemi that is quite an advanced pushrod design too.....
btw i'm curious why don't you guys like the DOHC V8?.....i would love to see more...can you guys imagine a 528 hemi with a DOHC head :naughty:

For me it's not I don't like the DOHC motor. I dont like the Mod motors period. I speak for myself but I feel betrayed by Ford. Where there was a ton of customer support and aftermarket support for the 5.0 cars. Chevy steps up and makes the 350 thier only V-8 in Camaro's and Firebireds. They went to the SOHC Mod motor to get better gas mileage than the pushrod motors. Which is fine but they didn't also need to step down to a 281 in my opinion. They could make SOHC/DOHC 302 or even better 351's(I know they have 5.4 Mod Motors but I dont see any in a Mustang from Ford). The mod motor blocks are not very friendly to being hopped up as compared to the 5.0's and parts are a lot more $$$$

excuse my ignorance but what is a Mod motor?
anyway personally i love the DOHC engines especially the high displacement ones.....its just amazing the power output they have...true they are more expensive and the heads are much bigger....but IMo its worth it....
i mean just look at the Mach 1 engine and the cobra one(same stuff basically) they are the best mustang 4.6's ever
also i understand that curently the ultimate ford engine would be the 5.0 crate quad cam which i belive its DOHC
i just think its nice to combine the displacement of a big V8 with the high reving efficiency and tunability of a DOHC setup(at least as far as the head is concerned)

:iagree: I feel the same way!
I do have to give Chevy props for sticking with a pushrod motor, I am a fan of the LS1 as well.
Neutrino, Mod or Modular is a term that ford uses to explain it's engine style. Modular is referring to the interchangeability of the parts of the motor between different vehicles. Mainly the F150, Navigator, Mark 8s, Mustangs, and Crown Vics all have some interchangeable parts. This was done for cost savings.

oh now i remember their modular concept thingi...thanks....
but i still don't understand why you guys hate the DOHC design so much when its obviously putting a lot more power to the ground

and you don't fool anyone....we can see your plans to create the first 350 DOHC vtec...the plans are in your sig :icon16:

One day last week i had a chance to race a LS1 and all I have to say is dang those things are fast! He got the jump on me cuz my clutch was slipping, but he never pulled on me and I never pulled on him. If my clutch wasnt slipping, i might have got the jump on him an beat him by a hair. We got to 100 or so then hit traffic on a one lane road. But then we both turned into a gas station and talked for a few then he went his way as did I.

so did I!!! that was a stock LS1 you raced?? what does my ws6 (or A WS6) stock really run......??? I've seen mid 12's all the way to high 13's... that's a pretty big gap... what would it run with say the average driver??

It looked and sounded stock, and I havent raced my car atthe track yet but with a skilled driver it should run low 12s-high11s.
