single or dual ohm? difference?

im planning on ordering 2 10" elemental design 10O subwoofers. whats the difference between dual ohm or single? theyre both same price... and also, what kind of amp would be good to power those babies?

i may not know alot, but this proves to me u guys dont know much either. theres only like 2-3 members on this website who are helpful... everyone else just asks for opinions on the new race seats or cool colors of street glow... when it comes down to technical, you guys are like ice cubes on a gorrilas back on a hot summer day... :shakehead

In single, it's just one terminal connection. Only one ohm rating you have to worry about. Dual, it's two terminal connections and each terminal has a resistance of certain ohms. Say you get a svc sub rated at 4 ohms, then all you have to match the amp to is the power rating at 4 ohms, or if you plan on bridging then you match at 2 ohms. If you get a dvc sub rated at dual 4 ohms, then you are able to wire the speaker to either 2 ohms or 8 ohms, and then wire the speaker to the amp. With this sub you can bridge it down to 1 ohm on the amp (if sub is wired to 2 ohms) or 4 ohms (if sub is wired to 8 ohms), or you can play it regular at the 2 or 8 ohms. Don't really know it affects sound quality, but it affects what amp you match to the sub. Sorry, I haven't been on for 3 days myself dude. :headshake I know, that's an Automotive Forum sin.

yep, the SVC and DVC versions of a sub sound very similiar ... the only real benefit is wiring flexibility.
