about three weeks ago i was talking to a guy that said he had put a 3000gt VR-4 engine in a 1g eclipse. now i know this has been brought up several times but he said he didn't have to do anything real major to the engine compartment to make it fit. he moved the fans to the opposite side of the radiator and thats all that i can remeber he said he changed some other things to but i cant think of them. has anyone else seen 1g with that engine???
he no longer owns the car either, he was from new york.

"Yeah, I put a VR-4 engine in my Eclipse. What do you mean? No, I sold it a while back. Pictures? Nope. Lost em. Sorry. But I really had it!"
:screwy:
Of course, he could be serious. Do you remember what he had to change? Radiator, easy. Which crossmember did he use? Did the tranny fit in fine? I can imagine that the engine dropped on the VR-4 crossmember wouldn't line up with the Eclipse CM mounts.
If he really did it, I'd guess he had to do about a million adapters to get all the systems to work, find a way to get the crossmember to fit, hope to god the gearshift lines up right, fabricate a driveshaft, find a way to make the ECU happy and throw in a little good luck.
At least this is how it seems to me, not knowing much about the VR-4 at all.
Although I would be really impressed.

MB38 has a really good point there. from lookin at the 1g engine to the VR-4....is it even possible, that guy must be rich as hell. hes gotta think about alot of things, like the Twin Turbo placement and other stuff, especially how big the VR-4 engine is.

Even weight alone would require a new suspension setup.
I suspect that if it's possible, this is a $10,000+ mod.

i would imagine with that size engine in that engine bay it wont sit side ways? (scratching head) was it converted to rear wheel drive? (scratching head somemore) i donno awfully big engine in a small car. but hey why not.

Nah , a little nipping and tucking should make it fit in the regular way. Why would you pass up AWD for RWD. Thats more like something Buschur would do. :loser:

You're talking about his 7 sec. yellow fiberglass bodied wannabe 2G , right?
To me , that car is a complete mockery of everything imports stand for. He's using a Powerglide auto tranny strapped to a Ford 9" rear end. The only thing DSM in that car is the motor and ECU. This is something the big-block guys have been doing for years , this is not something new. What's new is someone with no respect for imports daring to show this kind of crap to the rest of the world , and touting it as the worlds fastest DSM. I have a lot more respect for John Shepherd than Buschur. John uses a full bodied DSM and you would recognize everything , and where it is , if you opened the hood.

If this guy had a 300GT [twin turbo, I would assume ?] engine in an Eclipse, WHY has he moved on to a smaller noon-turbo car instead ? Having spent that kind of money.time you'd think he'd keep the damn thing rather than start over on a new project that wont turn out as fast as that could [assuming he put his money into tuning it up]

Some people live for the project. Once its done , they get rid of it. On to the next project. I too would keep a car like that , but some people would not , I guess.
