GSR Head on LS block

I want to get a teg and I heard that you could get more power out of GSR head on an LS block than you could with a full gsr engine. I am wondering if that was ture and about how much money it would cost. I am also wondering if you can get leather in a LS.

when you do that convertion its called ls/v-tech you gain alot more horse and can hold the gears alot longer. you'll be just about a full second faster. but its pretty expensive if you want the gsr head you would half to by the hole thing and then your lookin at about $2800 if you want the ls bottom end, its like $900 to $1200. (w/out labor)
just imagine your ls or gsr with a 65' shot.

I don't think you can get leather in an LS. You can in a GS/GSR, but I don't have info on the years that it was available.

LS/VTEC costs quite a few bucks to do it right. You'll be making a lot of power if it is done right though.

My guess on the costs is $3500 to get parts to do it well. If it were me, I'd be blueprinting the engine while I had it out of the car. You can make a really good LS/VTECfor $7000, or do it poorly for $1000. I would suggest getting an ITR or GSR engine from japan. The engine/tranny/ecu/harness usually go for about $4500 on the ITR and I dunno how much on the GSR. Not too bad, and since I'm in CA, it might actually be smog legal. I don't include labor costs because I can do everything myself. I'd say you only need to have the plug put in the head, and the dowel holes enlarged to 14mm and that probably costs less than $100.

Of course, there's always my killer idea of putting my VIN number on a dart block so I can smog it over here. I'm pretty sure the people looking won't know the difference between a VTEC and non VTEC engine.

I belive LS/VTEC is a method of creating a DOHC VTEC engine when there is no block available. I highly doubt that with a lower rev limit, lower compression, and a weaker block you will be making more power than a B18C1. Oh, and BTW, "holding the gears longer" applies to the transmission, not the engine. Shorter gears are better for acceleration... take two civics with the same engine, put an Si tranny in one, a DX tranny in the other, and watch the "gears holding longer" lose their ass.

The long gearing tranny will lose because our tiny engines only make power up top. The longer gearing makes you drop out of the power band (also out of vtec sometimes).

Wouldn't you say that you can "hold a gear" longer if you're waiting for 8300 rpm instead of 6800 rpm? It is possible to rev it that high on a stock bottom, I just wouldn't do it.

You don't have to buy a complete engine. You're looking at $300 for an LS block and $300 for a VTEC head. Don't forget shipping. Then while the engine is being built, I would take it apart, I would build up the block so I could rev it to at least 8500 rpm. I'd estimate about $1000 to rebuild/upgrade/blueprint/balance the bottom end.
