i asked someone who had a rb25 in his s14 and he said it passed emissions with no problems

In the more metropolitan counties (Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, whatever county Houston is in, and a few others), Texas does have emmissions testing. I'm not sure how strict the limits are, though; my rough-running Land Rover passed here (Collin county) twice without incident while my smooth-running Infiniti failed twice in NC...so, who knows.

Register the car out of county and it's fine... they can't get you for emissions violations.

Than whats with all of this JDM engines not passing smog tests and stuff. Just wondering because I don't want to have a swap done than not being able to drive it.

1. Illegal modification to the catalytic system of the vehicle
2. Illegal modification to the factory emissions
3. Illegal modification to the intake tract (turbo)
4. Illegal motor (JDM non-USDM code motor) (not EPA cert.)

I'm a state inspector... these are why it's illegal.

You'll need to "convince" a state inspector to pass the vehicle, if you get what I mean.

Dude, it's not that hard, just drive up to a county where they don't do emissions and pay the $30 a year to get a PO BOX and have the car registered to that PO BOX. I do it right now and it's a cinch.

My car registration has my PO BOX right on there. We've always had a PO BOX anyways, and all of my registration papers have always been sent to my PO BOX. And when our county started emissions testing I just changed my address to a PO BOX outside of the county.

thats not emmissions thats the inspection and it has nothing to do with the engine (unlesss it doesnt work) thats more of a saftey thing if they try to not pass you because of your engine just go somewhere else.

why cant someone just install the engine after an emissions test?
