1989 Bonneville Problems

I have an 89 bonneville with around 180,000 miles on it and it runs great but there are a couple things about it that bug me:
1)the check engine light has been on for months, had it checked by autozone who said its a bad egr, but I talked to a freind who doesn't think it is. when it starts it wants to die right away, and when started the second time I have to pump the gas otherwise it will die anyway, but once it runs for a while it never has a problem. so what gives?
2)my blower motor runs when it wants to, it hasn't ran for a while. my father in-law who owns his own service station got it to work by tapping on it, but it stops after being turned off.
3)my headliner is slowly coming down, can I just tack this up or how do I do it.
keep in mind here I'm on a really tight budget so going to a dealer will not help me to much, because of how much $ it would cost

How much $$$ would it cost if you took it somewhere and it didn't get fixed on the first try?? I can understand you wanting to save money but I have seen one too many times an indie would change 1000 dollars in parts for a 100 dollar repair bill at a dealership!!! Sometimes it is beeter to take it to someone that knows the GM carline then someone who only does service work on all cars. Do yu get my point??
Now to prove its your EGR valve take the valve off get a beer can, soda can cut a piece off install the piece under the EGR and see how it runs!!
What kind of HVAC system do you have a manual or auto system. The blower motor modules were known to go bad. But if tapping on the motor gets it running then I suspect it needs a blower motor.
