I just bought a 1992 honda prelude and i love the car except for one thing, it's an automatic and I want to convert it to a santard I was wondering how much I could expect to pay for that sort of conversion or if there was any sort of upgrades I could do to an automatic that would allow it to hold its own against a standard transmission.

You'd be better off if you just bought that car in a manual.

Depends on how much mechanical knowledge you have. If you can go to a junkyard and pick up the trans, shift linkage, ECU, shifter + console, pedal assembly, and then buy a new clutch you could probably do it for around a grand.

For starters, you'd be better off not listening to Boosted331, he's an idiot. Anyways, I had a 97 Honda Accord V6 that I tried to do this with. Mine was going to run me $9,885!!! :eek2: It shouldn't run you like that seeing as my car was not produced from the factory with manual tranny's. If you are going to buy new parts which would be the best thing (It will cost more but it will last a shitload longer than if you got them from a damn junkyard.) then that and installation should cost about $2500 maybe. I mean, it depends on whether you're going to stick with stock parts or whether you want some aftermarket parts. If you stay stock with the conversion, probably about $2,250 but if you get like a Unorthodox Racing Clutch, Possibly like HotWirez Linkage or something you might get run up to $2,750. On the other hand you could get a complete Racing Transmission Setup which could cost, for your vehicle, a hefty $4,000, but that's a little far fetched. Hope you have better luck than I did.

I'm thinking of converting my 97 civic over from an auto to standard. I have found a standard trans with 60k to transplant. But the big Q: is what would I need and is it going to cost me$$$$$$?

Before this can be answered, do you just have the tranny or do you also have the clutch and the linkage, and the hydraulic system and all the parts ready to complete the swap? if you only have the tranny it will cost a bit more but not much since you have you're main part already. Mine cost so much because I was going to have to transplant a 2003 V6 Accord 6-Speed Tranny because they never made the stick tranny for the V6's before this newest generation Accord. The civic has always been made with a standard and therefore the parts wont be as much and not to mention the labor will even be less.
