I've always wondered..... what ever happened to the gold plated D's?

As I recall, there were either 2 or 3 made. One of 'em sits in a museum/car gallery, another one sits at a bank in Texas, and I think there is a third privately owned one, but I'm not sure about it.

I have only heard of the two you described. I've not heard of a third one. It would be pretty cool to see one though.

I had done a bit of research about these cars a while back, and found a site that had the whereabouts of all 3 cars...however, I have a 1988 issue of duPont Registry that has a gold D for sale, that doesn't seem to match up with any of the other 3's history or details. I conversed with the site's webmaster about it and we think it may be a possible 4th car, but that was a couple years ago and we never really settled on anything.

I wonder if someone with $$$ thought a gold one would be cool and had their D cusomized that way.....

It claimed it was a factory original one, but who knows. I'll check the ad when I get home.
