I DYNOED MY CAR LAST WEEK AND IT'S HP AT THE WHEELS WAS 278 THEN I WAS SCREWING AROUND WITH MY INTAKE AND I WANTED TO CLEAN THE SCREEN IN MY THROTTLE BODY AND I TOOK IT OUT CLEANED IT AND DIDNT PUT IT BACK IN BECAUSE I WANTED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A DIFFERENCE, AND IT PULLED ALOT HARDER SO ABOUT A WEEK LATER I DYNOED IT AGAIN AND IT WAS 290 AT THE FRONT WHEELS. WRITE BACK ANY COMMENTS ON WHY THIS HAPPENED THANX!

I work at Ford diesel powertrain, and we put screens on our intake manifolds. I'm pretty sure the only reason is for sound quality concerns. So long as you don't mind the louder sound, I say keep it off.

That screen is in there to redirect the air to a less turbliant flow. it restricts the air flow by 15-20% that was one of the first things that I did.

OK.... WTF do you have done to your car? for you to not know about the screen, or the exhaust, and aparently you have factory exhaust. what have you done?

Better gas, Cooler weather, Cooler car, Different dyno/guy dynoing. These r some things that can change dyno results.

For that HP range look at my sig. I dynoed 291 fwhp 3xx lbtq

what pully do you have on your SC?

3.1 DUB Daily
2.9 only ran twice

off the topic, but i want to get a GTP and wondering waht kind of pistons come stock on the GTP, forged or cast, and how long will it last w/ the boost?? THANKS guys.

I'm pretty sure they are cast. But you could upgrade with the Diamond Coated/uncoated Forged Pistons.

I run 12 lbs of boost daily and doubt I will ever need to upgrade. Most people lose a piston when they run one of the cylinders too lean and crack the piston. One thing that always seems to destroy pistons is when people try to maintain speeds of over 100mph for an extended time period. :screwy:

Once you get a GP you'll be happy, and I dont think you'll have to worry about losing a piston.

Good Luck

You took out the throttle body screen? How tough was that? Do you think I'd gain anything on my NA (no supercharger) 3800?

I just removed my screen on a 2001 g.p with a 3.1 and i was sceptical at first about removing it, but now that its gone and i think about it, good idea ! It has to restrict alot of air coming in and thats not good.

There have been some guys on www.clubgp.com that have had problems with their cars after removing the screen. Be careful not to destroy it..in-case you have to put it back in.

And as Ripn12s pointed out, there are many factors that could have influenced the dyno results. I highly doubt that removing the screen gained you 12hp. :disappoin

And the OBVIOUS answer to your question....YES, it would be louder if you removed restrictions in your exhaust.

Ripn12s, that would blow a piston if the car is not in high gear, in high gear the rpms should be around 2900 and that would not harm the engine(to my humble knowledge).
The Burning Rom, good to see you again.

If you are going to put a lot if strain on your car go to http://www.intense-racing.com and check what they have for blocks, pistons and heads.
I blew my previous engine but was because I rev it up to 5500 for more than 15 mins(my tranny when to neutral) and it screwed the engine good. But for most of the guys I have read here that have moded lighlty or moderately their cars what the block brings from factory has served them more than well. In my case I am using a Reman Mr. Goodwrench engine with some moding and it only has 2 months so I do not really know if this one will get problems from the moding that I have made to it.

my car is around 3500 rpms at 100...maybe thats because its a gt not a gtp so the gearing is different..

gtgp97, Before my tranny died my car was like yours. When I got the new one I got it with the final output gear ratio to be 2.93 instead of the OEM the car had(3.29). If your car has a 3.29 transaxle then is behaving normally if it is 2.93 then I am nor sure because mine increased the cruising speed from 90 to 105 when I lowered the transaxle from 3.29 to 2.93 at 2900 rpms. That depends on the transaxle final gear ratio not if the car is NA or FI. What the FI or NA makes is the car quicker to get there.

yeah i know how engines work but supercharged engines came from the factory with 2.93 gearing and n/a with 3.29...

Well maybe mine was an export version or something, the car does not have a sunroof either. I ordered my parts from http://www.everretchevrolet.com at Washington state and when they requested the VIN number it showed up to be factory equiped with a 3.29 tranny. I kept the old gears in case I decide to install them on the future. That is that. :nono:

And BTW this is not an engine issue, this is a tranny issue. Does not matter what tranny you have installed the engine redline will be no matter what 6k rpms. The tranny gearing dictates the top speed or what engine rpms at any given speed. :banghead:

im commenting on what ripn said....and you saying it would not hurt the engine to hold speeds over 100.....so gearing has alot to do with this and what engine you have dictates overall gearing. No to mention going that fast for long period of time cant be good for tranny heat. if an engine is at 3500 or more for an extended period of time i think you should expect problems

Well I know that the overall gearing is dictated by the tranny gears and tranny diferential final gear output ratio, regardless of the engine driving the tranny. And I agree with you that a hot tranny is not good. I have read that a tranny that is hotter than 225degf is asking for trouble.
I know that depending on driving conditions is the heat you are going to develop tranny wise. A tranny would be a lot hotter climbing a moderate hill at 50mph than doing 50mph on a straight. I know now why Ripn12s have a TFT dial on his car. Depending on the reading is the LD that he puts on it. If you have the right gear ratio, a straight road, and the correct weather(a cool day) you can keep your tranny under 205degf, your engine below 3500rpms and the speed around ~95 for an extended period of time.

Have u taking the fduct off the throttle body? Is there a metal screen in the throttle body, infront of the throttle plate? If so Im sure you can, just need a snap ring pleirs or 2 nails.

there was no screen on mine. although it was quite dirty i cleaned it all out and made it all shiny, which then i went crazy and cleaned the whole engine(took about 5 hrs) and then bam there was the ups man with my cold air intake(bought it on e-bay for like 65 bonez). I thought to myself dam that was some good timing. needless to say i was running 15.5's with my chip and now it sounds much deeper. will post slips when i go to open drag at milan.

I know 15.5's isnt the fastest but i have an audiobahn 18'' ultra high excursion and 2 custom 280oz12'' volfenhag pro's not the little thousand watt ones, and an ma audio 4000 watt hc amp.
-ALL highs thanks to mb quart.-
{hittin150dbz)

im pretty sure that all wheighs alot with the inch thick custom-to interior mdf wood.
Ill tell you one thing my 24v 3.1 3100 aint no hoe and can sure kick some rice burnin ass
