Transmission grinding and grabbing

I have a 2000 Jetta GL 5-speed. I don't know much about transmissions, or whats "normal", however this seems abnormal. I test drove the car/drove it off the lot not knowing how to drive a stick. (To give you an idea)
When I'm shifing into R-1-2, sometimes the clutch with grind as I push it into gear, and as such sometimes i have to be gentle when putting it into those gears, and it's always a little forced. This happens wether the clutch is on the floor or "just far enough". It doesn't happen always, but sometimes as i'm shifting even from a stop in neutral it will "grab" as I put it into first, with the clutch on the floor. I can feel stuff rocking around and pushing on the stick. One time it even "grabbed" and started revving the engine.
Dealer says they can't replicate the problem. It doesn't happen often enough for their little 10 minute drive or whatever to find it, but the "hardness" of shifting happens most of the time. Any ideas?
(Oh and the check engine lights on, how can I get it to blink out the ECU code?)

try not to shift too fast. Also check the transmission linkage. sounds like linkage but u need 2 b a really shitty driver to rip up the linkage that fast. How the clutch. If the clutch has gone at least once especially if it was fast it's the linkage. If u can kill u clutch u can kill the linkage. Practice make perfect.
