Hi, and welcome. I think you might want to try and stip the body down a little more before you primer, then paint it.:bigthumb:

U might wanna strip it down some more using brake fluid or that Castrol super cleaner stuff. BTW, wut did u use to strip it down? After u've removed the red, go ahead and prime it. Refer to PMAN's priming and painting FAQ. Good luck.

I really Tamiya paints, but the closest hobby shop to me is like 8 hours away, so I'm stuck using Testors, but if you can, use Tamiya.

BTW is an acronym for "by the way"
IMO is an acronym for "in my opinion"
Yea, it took me a while to figure that out too:biggrin2:
anyways, try to remove the rest of the paint. Dip ur model in brakebluid for a few hours and that might do the job.

I have no idea, as I use toothpaste for rubbing compound:biggrin:
Use Tamiya spray paint for the exterior and Testors enamel for the engine and interior, but u can spray the interior for even better results.

Just so you know flat paint doesnt shine. Gloss or mettalic(sp?) is the kind you want for exteriors. You could use the flat red for the interior and maybe the engine.

and one more thing is that you HAVE to use clear coat on mettalic colors (I don't know why you could ask another guy why) on other exterior colors its optional.

Toothpaste is cheap and of course its not as good as the real stuff, but it does a fair job at polishing, although it takes a very LONG time. Sometimes, toothpaste can even dull out the paint even more, i dunno why. Here's a good compounding tutorial: http://www.interlog.com/~ask/scale/tips/rub/rub.htm

And oh yea, from my past experience, Colgate toothpaste seems to dull out Tamiya Black (TS-14).

Why would you use toothpaste? Thats the funniest thing I've heard. I'm going to try that to see if it really works. :lol2:

Toothpaste is more abrasive than regular polishes I beleive (never used it), which might be the reason it dulls some paint. I've heard of it being used on primer to smooth it, but still give it enough tooth for the color coat to grab hold of.
Use a Clear Coat over Metallics! First, it brings out the true color and depth of the metallic paints. It also protects it when you go to polish and wax.
Good luck, and welcome to the hobby.
Edit: The info above about the toothpaste was told to me by another member here some months ago. He also noted that the all white toothpaste is what you want. The old style stuff. The gels don't get the job done.
