Check engine light

91 Honda Accord

Car VERY hard to start when hot. Stumbles under high RPM's.

I get a quick flash of "4", pause, and a quick flash of "9"

Assuming that there are no 49 or 94 codes, I get:

Code 4: Crank Sensor

Code 9: Cylinder Sensor

These are 2 of 3 sensors built into the distributor. So I am assuming since 2 sensors are having problems, the distributor needs to be replaced.

My only problem is that i checked for resistance on the terminals, and they both came to within specs.

Has anyone had this problem and had it be something like the coil?

All my local auto parts stores sell the distributor for about $200, so i wanna be sure before I spend the money.

Prior to this, I have never had the check engine light go on.

Thanks for your help!

trouble codes displayed through CEL (check engine light) are two digit ones. first digit will displayed by long flashes, second one will be displayed by short flashes. in you case you have trouble code 49, and not 4 & 9.

In the repair manual, the codes only go up to 42.

Am I missing something?

I ended up buying a new distributor and all my problems went away.

It was a code 4 and a code 9, not a code 49.

Quick flashes represent single digit fault codes.

I am posting this just in case someone has my codes and/or symptoms in the future.
