Just Got A Jetta, My first car!

I just bought a 1998 Jetta Wolfsburg, and I was wondering wheter i should even attempt to speed it up, b/c my friend who has a Golf, vr6 nonetheless, says no it is a waste of time and money what do you guys think?

hey my wife has one, a 2003 jetta IV turbo, i put a k&n filter and a GReddy G2 Exhaust System, have to say that it worked out pretty well, the exhaust noise is lower than it was on my stock exhuast, unbelievable! :lol:
