Change Oil Light

Three months after every oil change at my local Mr. Goodwrench, my Change Oil Light comes on on my 99 Silverado. I talked to the mechanic who changed it and he said all he could do was reset it and it would probably go on again in three months. I've always had my oil changed every three to four thousand miles, but since I now only put on six to eight thousand miles a year, I don't need to be warned every three months. In fact, I don't need this warning light period. Is there a way I can shut it off? Thanks.

I suppose you could remove the dash and unplug the light. Not sure how hard that is on a Silverado.

I dont know of anyway to disable the light....guess you'll just have to reset it each time you change oil.....the procedure is located in your owners manual.

Thanks for your responses. I finally had a chance to read all the previous messages in this forum and I think I have the answer. In my original message, I incorrectly called it a change oil"light". Actually it was a change oil "message". The advice I found was a procedure which involves turning the ignition key to the run position and pushing the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds. Sorry if I originally misled you.

That procedure is correct, but it does not disable the reminder, it simply resets it. Now that you know how to reset the reminder, it probably won't be so annoying to you. :)

Gotcha, Frank. That's all I really want - to get rid of that annoying light. Thanks for your input.
