I dont really know which forum this question goes on but o well...If you have a lot of mods done to your car like intake, exhaust, bodykit, ect. and someone crashes into you and damages them, will their insurance compensate for the price you paid bought the mods for?

Supposedly... u have to report the mods done to the insurance company... but by doing this... you risk losing coverage entirely, as insurance companies these days don't like modified cars.. I read of a case where someone was rejected insurance because of a simple suspension upgrade... they had to remove it before being covered again..

i thought that when an accident is the other party's fault, your insurance company doesnt have to know about it

HAHAHA...
you thought wrong young one...
Whenever theres an accident both insurance companies are notified. Like in the case of when I was rearended 2 years ago, It wasn't my fault cause they hit me. But since I was involved in a accident my rates raised up.
Yeah, figure that one out. hahah...

insurances companies differ greatly from where you are to where i am. here there is one company that EVERYONE gets there insurance from. as for the mods, i heard here you dont have to report them, but if they are damaged, they arent coverd under your insurance. if you do report them, you pay more for insurance because your car is more "fast". i know, really stupid. it may differ from your company because i know in the states they can just canacel your insuranceif they dont like this or that, and you signed ok to it. moral is, ask the issuer about mods and what would hapen beforehand.

If the other party's insurance company doesnt pay for the damaged mods, can you sue the person for property damage?

Most states have something called "no fault". So when you get in an accident both insurance companies are notified. But if it was not your fault you call the other parties insurance company and talk to them. You will recieve payment through them and no surcharge will be assessed to you. But if you dont and get the payment through your insurance company you get hit as if it was your fault.
As for mods done to a car and if you want them covered. You must have the car appraised and reciepts for all mods done. Then they will appraise they car for a new value and you will pay a new rate based on that which is usually very high.

Yes, they have to cover modifications unless they can prove they were for maintaining the car instead. You can sue and you will win if you prove all the modifications are truly mods.

Man I miss the insurance companies of the states and how the system works there.
Here in New Zealand insurance is no manditory, so there is an estimated 25% of the cars on the road that are no insured. The ones that are insured 65% only have third party (covers the other guy).
Get this though if you admit you were at fault in an accident, odds are your insurance company will NOT cover you! Oh they will have to cover the other guy but if you read your policy, admitting liability is grounds for non-coverage! Oh it gets better yet!
Let's say you only have comprehensive (third party). You are sitting at a traffic light. A vehicle blows a tyre, loses control and slams into your car. During the investigation the determine it was a freak accident there was no signs of driver error. Guess what. Their insurance company does not have to payout to fix your car!!!!!!!! WTF.
Getting coverage here for your car is not easy either. Most do not want to know high performance cars yet ones that are modifited at all! Like mine I have to notify them of ANY changes at all from factory spec and why I've done it! If I add a stereo to my car and it's value is $1,000 NZD (@$500 USD) or more my co-pay will increase. If I change anything on the engine at all, ie cams they will not cover me. If I don't inform them of any changes and I'm caught in an accident I am not covered at all which means I foot the whole bill for the other party's car and mine! Not to mention our premium rates are outrageous. :comprage1

So does a body kit count?
