Help a lost newbie

I just bought a 95 1500 sub. I have been fine with it's performance around town but this last week, I worked out of town and for the first time really tested it on the highway. To cruise around 80, it would continualy downshift and shoot off, then top the hill and slow down then downshift and shoot off etc etc etc. Especially with the AC on. I know that the 95 has some power issues but the price was great and I figured for 4000 less than a 96, I could add some extra horsepower and torque. Anyway, long story short, what do you recommend I do to increase power perfomance. I have looked at a lot of boards and all seem to contradict each other. Truck has 125,000 miles and will be used almost exclusively for on road driving. Help!! Thanks

i hope you get this as your thread was a while ago i just joined this forum. i had a similiar problem with a chevy pick up. one thing that was wrong was the vaccuumm modulator. ( i assume its an automatic) which is easy to replace. second when was the last time you had the tranny serviced ? and finally there are different clutches that can be put in the automatic if you choose to have it rebuilt hope that helps some.

Could use a K&N air filter, thats the first performance part i got, I always thought I had to clean it a little often, but for more power, how really cares? Plus by the way it sounds, you may want even more air flow if you are going to run the AC. Maby a REAL hood scoop, or some better exaust to get that baby boomin'! Just my opinion, I am not concidered a "truck genius", although i know the most in the neighborhood :-)

You may want to consider doing a check up on the ignition system and the catalytic converter. Weak plugs, wires, cap/rotor could lead to lost power, as well as a clogged cat. Also, look for vacuum leaks. A compression check would tell you a lot about the internal condition of the engine. Sometimes going up hill at 80 mph in overdrive may just suck too much power away, especially with A/C. How steep is the hill?
