Today I got the Maisto RSX so I could jack the dash and use it in my Fujimi DC5 (Not that great looking, but for $5 it'll do). I was driving home, thinking about what else I could tear out of the car and use, seats came to mind... then, engine.
Upon further inspection, the engine detail blows. It's pretty much limited to the top part of the engine (ie the Fujimi NSX). However, I'd imagine that this would be the hardest part to fabricate, and you could probably use the top of the Maisto RSX motor and perhaps the block from a Revell Civic/Integra and go from there. This also could be a starting point for all you Subie lovers out there, since Maisto makes a WRX diecast, though I haven't gotten a look at it.
Regardless, putting an engine in a curbside is alot of work, this just could be a good starting point, if you're looking for one.

Otherwise, it's an option I've considered, but I've generally decided I'm not up for it yet...

hmmmm . . . ive been having similar thoughts today, having been sat at home without any kits to build, i saw my old Burago Ferrari GTO thats been sitting on top of my TV for the last 5 years gathering dust- after picking it up and having a look, its actually really well detailed, so i think i might take it apart, paint up all the interior, detail the engine with plug leads and stuff, and respray the shell.
Considering this model cost me like £5 on a ferry back from france im pretty impressed with the potential of this model, so diecasts are definately a new resource worth considering!

Sorta a resource of last resort, but a good starting point.
I picked up a die-cast kit of the New Beetle last week and I'm going to 'borrow' the engine for a NB project.
There are also quite a few cars released in die-cast that will prob. never come out in plastic kit form.

I picked up a diecast Audi TT unasembled kit (Testors) because maybe I'll do it up right one day since Audi is stingy with their plastic kit license!:mad:
