First of all, what's up everybody... A couple weeks ago, I got a 2000 WS6... It's a red M6 convertible.. I have wanted one of these since I can remember, but I wanted a black w/ t-tops... anyway, i have heard that the convertible weighs more.. is this true, and if it is true, what will I run in the 1/4?? I had a WRX before(they're slow, but my import lovin friends thought it was fast).. I want to know what kind of mods will get me what horsepower, and how much they'll cost... that kind of stuff.. i recently ordered an edelbrock catalog and summit racing...

one of my friends also told me that i HAVE to turn off my traction control when i race, or i'll lose.. is this true?? he knows alot more about ls1's then i do.... I have only gotten on it a couple times, all of which i keep forgettin to turn off the traction control, and the little light comes on saying low traction (which he says cuts power) ... give me any and all help you can.. i appreciate it...

first couple cheap things to do would be to get a k&n air filter good high flow headers and good X pipe with dual exhaust and high flow cats and mufflers and maybe a new throttle body too and then a cold air intake too but thats starting to get expensive the only price i know of is the k&n which is usally around 50 bucks or less all of the other stuff depends what brand you go with

my buddy steve has an 89 iroc and a 97 cobra... he said the k&n filter was a noticeable hp + throttle response gain... but i was reading online, and a couple people said all its good for is filtering better than stock one..... i guess i need to get one either way though..

yes and with a k&n you never need to replace it you just need to clean it

I need some more input/suggestions... i am most curious about the convertable weight issue(wether it does weigh more/ 1/4 times,0-60, etc), and the traction control thing.....

thanks:bloated:

The Convertible does weight more, it's a consequence of having to strengthen the car since there's no roof on it.

As for things you should do, go along with the aformentioned things as well as things like getting a new airlid (stock one flows like crap), headers, maybe gears, a shortshifter, etc. All of these should help your times...

so i know now that it weighs more( which blows), do you know how much it'll slow me down..... if i turn traction control off racing from a standstill, do i do it rolling too?? also, what does everyone think about skipshift.. is it worth bypassing?

Also, CamaroSS, your car runs better than a 13.5 with mods, right?

It would if the track that I took it two would let me launch in the groove when I was there. Thanks to that, I get 2.2x 60' times and 13.5's in the quarter. Besides, none of the mods added any real horsepower. All I've done is make it breathe a little easier.

As for the weight difference, it's not a whole heck of a lot. It's not gonna make a huge difference one way or another. As for TCS, I don't know the answer to it, my SS doesn't have it. About the skipshift, you can get a skip shift eliminator for about 50 bucks, or you can jerryrig it yourself so that it doesn't do a 1-4 shift on slow acceleration, or you can deal with it. If you accelerate at a decent pace anyway, it's not gonna get in your way for everyday driving anyhow...

alright, thanks... anyone else got any tips/advice....? this car feels a whole lot faster than the wrx was... those things aren't that fast... i never had a RWD car before, so i think it'll take me a little to get used to driving it... any advice is appreciated.... ls1 baby, yeeeaahh!!

edit: also, i would like to cut the cats off... it is illegel here, but there are no longer emmissions checks.. the problem is i bought a warranty(cause i don't want any problems, i got it at carmax), and i asked them, and they said i can't cut off the cats.... how well do high performance cats compare to stock/ to no cats???

They're right in the middle of the two, they're better than stock, but not as good as a straight pipe...

what you could also do is find cat pass throughs which look like cats but have a straight pipe goin through them so it still is technicly illegal but you cant get caught unless they unbolt them and cut them up...which is deffenetly not gonna happen

oyah damn the new cars and all of their sensors

umm yah you would need the sims probly and then i bet they are cheaper then high flows and just check around at your local preformace shops for them

You really should remember to take the Traction Control off. It's like a 10 HP difference. Not a big deal, just enough to justify making it a habit. They have a part for 50 bucks that turns it off every time you start your car. I wouldn't completely disconnect it though because its a great feature when it rains or something.
Also, about RWD cars, notice how much power you have when climbing a hill. That kicks butt for sure.

so you suggest taking it off every time i start the car??? i've never had a RWD car before, so would that be a good idea?? I just don't want to lose control of the car somehow..( guess i'm just nervous cause my dumbass friend lost control of my WRX and totaled it)

would it be ok to turn it off, and just leave it on in the rain or something?? if it WAS off in the rain, would it be dangerous??

SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS Y'ALL

it wouldnt be dangerous in the rain well it shouldnt be because tcs prevents your tires from spinning so aslong as you dont go nuts in the rain tryin to launch hard off any lights or stuff like that you should be fine with it off all of the time

If you're driving on regular roads in regular weather, it doesn't do anything for you. It does make a difference in rain and on dirt roads, though. It's like a 2nd gear start on some cars. The thing is, you won't be racing (hopefully) in rain or snow, etc. and it's easier to remember to turn it ON when you need it than it is to remember to turn it OFF all the time. I've gotten in the habit of turning it off when I start my car, just so I don't forget. Maybe that's too much, just remember to turn it off when you race (like air conditioning).
