I have entertained the idea of purchasing a WRX wagon in a year or two and was wondering what the insurance is like. I have been told that the insurance is crazy high because it has a turbo. But wouldn't it be reasonable because it's a wagon? Please help me out.

Insurance is dependant on a lot more than what car, like where you live, your driving record (tickets and accidents), your age.

Go on statefarm.com and you can get a decent idea of what it will cost you to insure, just use their quote feature and answer it honestly.

your insurance will be highest for a car that is new, a 2door MT sports car, even more if its turbo or TT

Insurance for the WRX is expensive however you look at it. If you're male and under 25, regardless of driving history, you will be robbed. At least for a while. But owning a WRX is well worth the extra green for insurance. Besides if you can buy outright or finance one of these machines insurance shouldn't be a problem for you anyway. ~C.J.~

if you are close to 25 though it's not bad... hold out. My insurance is about $445.00 per year for full coverage, but i told them i wanted a $1000.00 premium. Which I think is better anyway. Without the $1000.00 premium, it's almost $800.00 a year. So in a year and a half i could have saved up $1000.00 bucks for a premium if i ever need to use it.

:eek2: How old are you and where do you live that it is only $445 a year?!?!?

I'm 28 (but being married helps too ;)) I live in Huntsville Alabama, and I've been with the same company for 11 years with no wrecks (that they know of). i bought the WRX when it first came out in 2002 and My insurance was almost twice that. Which was about normal, then alpha sent me this good driver rider for my insurance and i met all the requirements which dropped it to the 600 range. Then i asked if i could up the deductable, which had to be approved through the loan officer i got my car from, after that it dropped to it's current price. We have out house life etc. through them too, but even without that 800 bucks shouldn't be hard. Plus you can always get a used suby, which is what i should have done.

Insurance is the reason that I can't really get a Suby for my first car. :frown:

Most of my friends are with AAA and they are about the cheapest around. I am paying about 54.00 a month full coverage on my supra and my friend is paying 37.00 a month on his STi.

Well, I'm married, 24, and anxiously waiting for July of 2004 to come around. Everybody tells me 25 is the magic number to get better rates.

I've had 5 speeding tickets, but 2 were out of state, and the last of the other 3 should be coming off my record soon.

I still drive a little fast - I just know how to not be a target! :)

Insurance premiums are based on how often a person like you crashes this model of car, how much it costs to repair or replace the car, and medical/life costs. I would think that the WRX's AWD, superior handling and ABS means it is less likely to crash than other cars, and although repair costs may be high, the great crash safety aspects of the car means the medical/life costs are less. Your not going to find a comparable car that has a lower insurance rate.

The main reason rates are high (in general) is that so many people are making false or over-blown medical claims.

from what I have heard, insurance is pretty high on WRXs, especially STi's. Wagons are probably a little less, compared to the sedan

My WRX is really cheap to insure. It is considered a four-door sedan, and Subaru has a great safety rating. It was cheaper than the base model Jetta I had... and certainly cheaper than my z28 is! BTW, I'm 22 with a clean record, although I've had a few tickets fixed. My rates are ~$60 a month.

I see some of you have $67-$80 a month payments for insurence...what kinda coverage? and what company are you with? and what state you in? i'd like to find out...i'm 20 and clean record...with full coverage my insurence person said it'll be about $500 a month!

maybe i need to change insurence companys. thanx.

500 a month works out to 6000 a year. Were you convicted of vehicular manslaughter? You say you're clean, but the only think I can think of that would make a $6000/year insurance bill is something along those lines. As a clean 19 year old, I can be insured on a Supra turbo for less than $1200, and under $1100 on a WRX. Are you sure you don't mean $500/6mos?

I am also looking into getting a wrx, and state farm quoted me $2400 a year with full coverage. That is 19 with no tickets or accidents.
