2001 325i - Notchy 4th Gear

Greetings all...I have a 2001 325i with a manual transmission. I've noticed that 4th gear seems to be a bit "notchier" than that of the others. Basically, I can feel the gear engage more in 4th gear than the others. Has anyone else observed this in their e46 manual tranny cars?

Thanks,

Josh

How new is the car. It could just be that the car hasn't been broken in yet. I recently installed a new shifter and it was very notchy but it is getting better the more and more I drive it.

The car has about 12 K Miles on it. So, it's not totally brand spanking new. Is there something could be adjusted by the dealer? Could the linkage need adjusting?

It could be something simple like a bad bushing or a bent selector rod... both are cheaper than a case of beer. No including labor... but regardless you have that warranty to lean on.

Well, I think I figured out what was going on with the feel of the gears. Basically, I think I was shifting with way too low of an engine speed. I very specifically shifted into 4th below 3000 RPM and then did it agin above 4000 RPM and at the higher speed it was spooth as glass. I think my issue is technique related and not mechanically. I figure if there was a mechanical issue, it would give me the problem at all shift points.
