crvtec questions

I have been doing alot of research on swaps and decided on an all motor crvtec. At importbuilders.com they have b20 blocks which come with alot of stuff I will need anyway like water pump, new bearings, oil line all done, which of these blocks do you think would be best? I dont think I need the sleeved block if I go all motor. I know that the new pistons and rods are a bit much for an all motor but will it at some longevity to the engine?

They also offer different compressions, and I plan to make this a daily driver, and the max octane I can get is the usual 94. Not to sound like too much of a noob even if I am, how is compression calculated and how is it changed? Thanks

The highest compression u can go on pump gas is 12. Thats what i'm gonna do. Importbuilders.com is a very reputable place. I'd buy any of there motors if i had the dough.

Here (http://www.torinocobra.com/Randys_tools.htm) try this to calculate compression ratio.

Thanks guys, I think im going to go with 11.8:1 compression to be safe, or am I just as safe going 12:1? Do you guys think I should go with the sleeved block or not, will it add longevity or am I just wasting my money?

You dont really need to but i would so the engine can be brand new! OH you dont have to get the aftermarket sleeves. You can go with stock.

Well I am also looking at ImportBuilder.com I am doing a complete engine re-build. I am doing a b20 block that is completely re-done by them, and also doing a b18 GSR head that will also be rebuilt by them to. What do you guys think about that? I am putting it in my del sol. My freind did that but with a b16 head and ran a 13.2 in the 1/4 with full interior and slicks, and was all motor with a 12.5:1 compression. I am doing the same but i am turboing it with a rev-hard b-series turbo kit. Well let me know what you guys think?

i heard that it's best to go with either the b16 head or the itr head because they have better flow then the gsr. correct me if i'm wrong. just my :2cents:

The B16A head does have better flow than the GSR head, that is true. The B16A head is a better flowing head by 5.25% over the GSR head. Also, the B16A head has a bigger combustion chamber than the GSR besides being the better flowing head The B16A has a 42.7cc combustion chamber versus the GSR heads 41.6cc combustion chamber. The GSR head will give you slightly higher comperssion by .2 due to it's 41.6cc combustion chamber.

Also, to the guy building a boosted CR/Vtec like his friends all motor CR/Vtec. You said you are building it just like him. Please tell me you are not going to run a c/r of 12.5:1 and go F/I.

What are the options? If they come with aftermarket rods, pistons and all new parts, then what does it matter. I would not worry about the aftermarket sleeving, although it would have some peace of mind. I am not sure on what is the highest comperssion that you can run on pump gas, but I have heard 11.5:1. Thats what I would go with.
