You have to take the radio out and look at the back of it. :frown:

Does this mean that I will find the code on the back of my radio when I take it out? I own a 1995 Red Mits 3000GT and the battery died. I found a few sights where you could get the code...but they wanted to charge me $48 for it. Screw that! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes - the security code is on the back of the radio. If you have your manual with the car, it describes where the numbers on the radio are.

Well thats great that its on the back, but I never got a manual with my car, i got the serial number, and they want $35 for the code here, but there's no way i'm payin for a damn code, you would think the thousands spent on buyin the car was enough. if anyone could tell me where to look it would be a great help, thanks! :)

I think he means look on the back of the radio and get the code. once you get the code, hit power and play with the radio preset buttons to enter the numbers and then hold down the tape button to enter it. I think

I looked at the back of the radio, yogs was saying that the code is somewhere on there and the manual tells you where it is, I dont have the manual...the other thing is do I really have to leave the car on with the door open for an hour to get 3 more chances? b/c right now it says off even after i unplugged it for a good 20 hours...is that the only way to reset it?

Yeah, the door open and running for an hour is the way to reset it.
Are you the first owner? There is a chance that the previous owner might remember what it was...

Well I drove around for an hour and it finally reset, and I already asked the previous owner he has no idea, I think i'm the 3rd or 4th owner...this thing is a pain, i have a cd player in my other car, but I'd rather be drivin my GT and I just want music in it until I get another cd player so I dont have to deal with this again...but is the code really in the numbers on the deck somewhere, I've had it out a couple times, but I don't really want to try random numbers so I gotta drive around again. :(

My code was on the key ring on a very small peice of metal, didn't realize it till the battery died, I took the car to the dealer because it (the car) didn''t act like any other car with a bad battery I'd had before. At that point I told them my radio was out also, they told me about the code and the $ to retrive it (using the vin to find it) I barganed for the best price for the battery & then closed the deal only if they throw in the code and the procedure, they wanted my busness so I wrote the code and the procedure down on sticky note and put in the glove box where it resides today. I know this doesn't help much, but a creative person might be able to take the car to a dealership and tell them he want's to to trade in the car on a new one, while the salesman is looking over your car, you go back and talk to the service writer and try and get the code & procedure.yada yada yada.

:banghead: BTW...there is no radio code on the back of the radio. I ended up just buying a whole new stereo. -T.

Well thanks anyway, but I went back to the dealer and he called up a Mitsubishi dealer just to see what happened and they gave him the code no questions asked....so I got my radio back :) I now have it written all over completely defeating the purpose of a security feature in the radio.

Is there any way to get the radio code when everything is still working so that if it was to go out, we'd have it and not have to go through the whole mess that everybody's going through? Cause damn, I'd be mad to have to pay $35-40 for the code.

Hi everyone. I'm new here and I just got a 1995 Mitsubishi 3000 GT SL from a used lot, with no manual and the radio does not go on because I don't have the code.
Same old story right? UGH
THey told me the previous owner has the code and I have been waiting since Tuesday to get it. Nothing. It will cost $100.00 if I go to the dealer and they get the code and reset it. Or I have seen you all talk about paying $35.00 to get it. Where is the place I have to go for the $35.00 fee. That might be my best option right now. But I still need to know the steps to reset it.
I could take it to the dealer but I dont want them to have to pull my dash apart to get the radio out. I do have the VIN if I can get the code from that it would help too. If anyone can help direct me I would appreciate it very much!

When i bought my car i had the same problem, I popped out the radio trim, and the serial number of the stereo was on a sticker on the top front right corner (except i was looking at it backwards) wrote down the code and called my local Mitsu dealership service department. he told me I would have to bring it in cause they would need to remove the stereo to look up the serial in their computer to get the code. I told him i already have the radio removed and looking at the serial number now. He was cool enough to look up the code for me and walla!! working headunit ..didn't cost me anything...and then i ripped it out and installed an Pioneer

Yeah, you only have to pop off the trim surrounding the unit, then it's just 4 screws that hold the whole thing in. Remove those and you can take it out. Your best bet would be to call up different Mitsu. dealerships pretending to be a car dealership just looking for the code on a trade-in car, they usually just hand it out to them...which is what worked for me!
Also take the unit out (haha) just to see if maybe the previous owner wrote the code on the back somewhere.
