I am interested in getting an upgrade for my '90 Civic EX and was wondering what some possibilities are for a 16 year old on a budget. Right now I just have front discs and rear drums and am looking for better brakes. Shoot your ideas at me because i don't know much about brakes and brake upgrade kits.

save up for a rear disk conversion, those go for around 200 bucks

On a rear disc conversion what car/model would I choose them off of...and how hard of an install is something like that?

Also the EX had the biggest front brakes of any EF so you can leave the front alone.

I thought EX had rear discs though? Hmmm.

Well I know for a fact that the previous owner did not swap the disc brakes on to something else considering my parents owned the car since it was new, lol.

Would this be the same procedure as on a sedan because i notice the site is a hatch site and was just wondering if its the same thing to do on a sedan...or if there are slight differences.

only difference is what ebrake cables you need to get, which for a 4 door should be the 90-93 integra 4 door ebrake cables

Alright thanx GTA...One more question, how much about do u think it would cost for a whop to install the rear disc conversion. I am just wonderin cuz my parents don't trust me w/ a lot of shit and would rather have it done right so approx. how much u guys think it might be?

Leave the rear drums alone. You already have the bigger front discs. They do most of the work. Just get some better pads......make sure whatever pads you get are compatible with the rotors you have (been there, done that). Remember, you're on a budget.

What is the difference between just blanks and then with drilled...slotted..or drilled/slotted? Im just wondering because i know jack about brakes and would like to learn some.

Uh oh - back comes the big debate to haunt us again.

My views: Slotted are good but eat pads, slotted and drilled even more so. I don't like drilled as in my experience with a car I raced I had them crack. While the heat dissipation is better, the holes weakened the structure under high temps. Again - just my view/experience. Personally I'm looking at the kangaroo paw stle rotors when I upgrade - shaped fins inside the rotor that increase airflow in a conventional manner, but more efficiently.

Oh, I forgot to mention - drilled look pretttier :p

/me dons flame-retardent underwear ;)

I have heard of people cracking slotted/drilled rotors on the street & racing. I run dimpled/slotted rotors on the vette
