Baldwin Drag Cobra, stock form (I finally finish something)

I built this one using the Revell Baldwin Motion Drag Cobra kit. I decided not to use the decals that came with the kit, and instead build a "stock" looking version. I also decided to try something different and paint on Gold stripes. What does everyone think?
The only modifications were lowering the suspension in the front, and lifting the suspension in the rear. The kit was very detailed, and the proportions seem nearly perfect. It is a very convincing replica in real life. Sorry once again for the quality of the pics.
Let me know what you think.

Yep, that is the stock windsheild. It came nicely packaged so it wouldnt get scratched. I am pretty sure it was in its own seperate bag. I was careful not to get it out of the box before it was ready to go in so I wouldnt mark it up at all with my grimey hands. :loser:

Hawk312, your paint job is the best I've seen for a long time now ! What's your secret ? Is it Sikken Autoclear on it or what?

Thanks! Here is my technique:
First is the color coats, after priming of course. I usually use Duplicolor whenever I can. If it is a solid color like this one, I wetsand after the color coats. Then I apply 4or 5 coats of clear. Wetsand again after allowing it to dry for about a week. Apply several more coats of clear, and allow to dry for another week. I dont think anyone else here does it this way, but it is giving me great results. I wetsand after its completely dry, then use 3M compound, followed by Tamiya compound. Using the Tamiya compound is where it really becomes glossy and smooth. Rub with this stuff as long as possible, or until your arm falls off. I finish it off with Zaino polish, and then maybe another coat of Zaino. You might want to try Zaino! Did I mention you *NEED* to use *ZAINO*? It is really good stuff.
With this one the stripes we kinda tricky. But, by applying all the clear coat, sanding, and then clear coating again, there isnt any "ledge" where the stripes are, and you cant even feel where the stripes are if you run your fingers over them.

Another brilliant work from you Hawk312.
Excellent paint job and a great colour scheme that suits well and don’t take any of the beauty of the Cobra.

Beleive me or not, you made me buy a Baldwin Cobra too ! Can't deceide if it's gonna be black or blue but it'll be with the white stripes for sure. No Baldwin decal though, I want it like something I could have in my own garage. Seem to be a really good kit. Didn't started it yet, I have so much in the waiting process that I can't see the day I'll finish all this !
Maybe I'll try Duplicolor. I have problems with Tamiya Clear, didn't seem to dry... after a month, you've got to be carefull not to stick your fongerprints on the body. Way too soft for the handeling I have to make. I ruined my finish on a RX-7 by doing the window trims... frustrating, you can beleive me. It almost fly across the room... Wooo a flying RX-7! :banghead:

Wow, I thought this thread was dead. Thanks again everybody!
Martbee, I had a hard time deciding which color too. I was standing in the paint section at advance auto with three different cans in my hands holding the caps next to each other, trying to see how they would look together! :banghead: :banghead: I am seriously considering doing another one sometime, because there was this dark blue color that had just a hint of purple in it that looked *really* good with the gold. I may try those two colors together.
The kit was great. You will want to make sure you lower the front end about 2 scale inches and lift the rear about the same, or it will look really awkward.

Damn, you make me want to buy one now, just don't have the cash. :disappoin
Not to mention the fact that the kit probably isn't sold in my neck of the woods. :crying:
