Hey, I am a newb as you can prolly tell. Anyways, I was wondering if a LS1 would be better in a 03 mach 1 than the stock engine. I know it will be a little better but I dont know if it would be worth getting or if it would even fit in the mustang. Thanks for any help!

There is no point in doing that the DOHC 4.6 can be made to be a fast streetable engine. Speaking of Mach I's I got the pleasure of seeing a yellow one up close and personal at a car show today. So sweet, the guy said he paid $29,000 for it which ain't too bad.

some professional golfer's nephew goes to my school, he's got a grey on black one. The car is bonerriffic, but the guy is a total tool.... it's a sad arrangement.

I thought the bhp for the mach one was equal to the LS1. Z28's have about 310-325 (newest ones) and the mach1's using about 309? I thought i remember those numbers correctly.

Depends which one your run up against. LS1's were rated with 325, 335, or 345 depending on year and options...

Standard SS models with ram air are 325hp. Probably more like 330 hp standard in the 02's.

They say those Mach I's will run neck and neck with a Camaro SS as well. I have a feeling the "305 hp" is probably just the engine alone, no ram air scoop. But of course every Mach I comes with the shaker hood scoop.

Like I said keep the damn engine if you buy that car. You'll have a classic car with the original engine because thats the only year the Mach I is produced on the 4th Generation bodystyle. Kind of like the Bullitt will be a rare classic car to find, years to come. And who knows if either of those cars carry over to the next Mustang.

Even if they do thats only 2 years the Mach I will be produced on the 4th generation body.

:iagree: I am considering many posibilities for my new car. It needs to be in the 20k range though.

GT Coupes run at around 21k MSRP That means you can msot certainly find one at a dealership near you for under that. That's 260bhp to start off. I think finding a camaro Z28 should cost a little more (althoug I dont know... my poppy's is a slightly used Z28--driven by a 17yr old girl used)

For 20k tho you can get a mean car that is older. But if you're like me you won't settle for foxbody's (No disrespect though).

You make the choice.

Oh and the 03(?) and defintely 04 V6 mustangs have a crazy looking hood that is totally different from the exsisting ones... I wonder if the GT hood is the same because the "scoop" is in the front like a cobra but there's only one and its wide and thin.. with the rest sloping up like the )1 cobras without the vents. Pretty snazzy for a V6 eh?

Mach 1's put about 270 RWHP down stock, and your typical LS1 is anywhere from approx. 300 to 330 RWHP. I've seen a few auto 98 cars in the mid 290's, but most are in the 300's. The cars are pretty much even dead stock because the mach 1's have a weight advantage over the F-bods. If you wanted to have a 4.6 DOHC with a solid axle though, go hunting for a 99 GT if you like the body style or a 96-98 GT if you like that body style and swap in a 4.6 4V and go modding.

Does the Mach I have IRS or no? I think the mach I also has slightly better gears, 3.55(?), which would help out as well with acceleration.

Correct, Mach 1 has a live axle and 3.55's. It's basically the 2001 cobra motor (except in the automatic cars, they got a non-forged crank for some reason) with the shaker thrown on top and a live axle out back.

No, its not an 01 motor! I was bitchslapped a few times and one forum got into a huge arguement over it. Though it has the 01 block, it has 03 heads, 03 cams from a navigator, and so forth.

talk about weird.
