Actually, as an SCCA participant, autocross and gymkhana are two different events.

Autocross is all about the clock. Here's your course, there's your car, get through it as fast as you can without bonking a cone. The guys you're with, same thing. Course, car, cones. That's it.

Now, gymkhana is different. (as I recall, it's been a long while since one of these was even held around here) Gymkhana typically takes place on dedicated circuits (Nelson's Ledges Sports Car Course is a good example) that more often hold karting events. It's also about time, but you are judged on your run. It's more about being smooth and consistent, rather than throwing your car around helter skelter. Strangely enough, gymkhana judges frown on "drifting" as it's defined here.

Takumi could be a real life person because in the movie "Drift Bible" staring Keiichi Tsuchiya (you can get the DVD from your local video retailer) has Keiichi Tsuchiya mentioning that he himself "taught takumi from initial d how to drift"

ok i don't know wtf that means cuz (if what he said is true then initial d is based on some real people made into a story)

i had to register to post this cuz i did not see it mentioned , i had heard this b4 from another forum and found the same thing in the movie so i post it here have fun

and i'm curious to know because you said (usa's drift scene is parking lots) you guys from usa?

Keiichi Tsuchiya was a technical consultant to Shiuichi Shigeno during the creation of both the Initial D manga and anime. It was Tsuchiya's technical know-how that allowed the animation team to better represent the motions, physics, and techniques of drifting.

As such, Tsuchiya was making a joke. Since it was his knowledge that created the drifting in Initial D, he figuratively "taught" Takumi how to drift.

And, for the record, we use proper spelling and grammar here and don't post illegal downloads. Consider this your one and only warning.
