v6 mustang vs GSR

I really hate to respawn one of the longest lasting threads on AF but i had to try it. My sister recently, out of no where, pulls up in our driveway in a black 01 GSR, so im thinking wtf...Shes like "it looked good on the side of the road so i decided to get it" I was like "Why not the type R?!?!". And she said she didnt like the color yellow (?!!?). Well, thats besides the point. I taught her how to drive manual, red lining, double clutching, launching, and all that. Then i read the long controversial thread on the v6 mustang vs the gsr, and it just so happend that my mom has a 01 v6 mustang convertible(very soon to be mine) so i wanted to match it with the GSR. We live in a suburban area so theres lots of straight open roads. I convinced my sister to race her car against the mustanga(also, both cars are BONE STOCK). So today, i called up one of my friends who is also a "street racer" to tag along. We got to a road which is a little more than 1/4 mile and launched. I dont know if its my sister driving or what but the Mustang beat it off the line til about 30mph, then of course the v-tec kiked in and she pulled up closer and evetually passing me, we topped at about 110 and shut down. We did a few more runs and same results except for a misshift. We even eliminated the "driver fault" factor and switched cars, and i even got my friend to drive a few runs in both cars and id have to say the GSR does have a slight advantage over the mustang. Now this is only from my personal experience so dont take it to be fact. The GSR did win by only about half a cars length on most of the runs. Im not a die hard fan of either cars but to me, the v6 mustangs have one of the most inefficient engines ever made. Only 193hp. Other 3.8L v6 cars on the market are well in the mid 200 range but i guess i should start supporting the mustang since ill be getting it soon. As for the GSR and v6 mustang, they arent even in the same class so why bother to compare the 2?

If you hate that then you'd look at Chevy's 4.3L V6. In an 2wd S-10 it comes with 180hp. There are a couple reasons for that, one being torque was the focus of the engine, which is decent (240ft lbs). What I'm trying to say is it's not really inefficient, just I don't think Ford really cared to make the V6 Mustang have a lot of power. Thats what you buy their V8 Mustangs for.

Im not a huge fan of the mustang but isnt the convertible slightly heavier than the base coupe? I think a coupe v6 would have been closer to beating the gsr.

I know we all love the double-clutching commenst here on AF. But I just kinda like the whole sentence.
It's a good think you were there to teach her to REDLINE her motor, double clutch it, and launch it at what 6,000rpm?:bloated:

heh it was the least i could do as a brother. I usually launch around 5-6k rpm so thats what i got her to do but im sure the GSR can handle more. As for the v8 mustang, I do have respect for that, I just feel Ford couldve make the v6 a lil more stronger. When my mom took me to the dealership to get the mustang, I convinced her to get the v8 mustang convertible. But the next day, she went back and switched it to the v6 just cuz she couldnt see the road because of the scoop in the hood , and it wouldve been all mine now :frown:

She pulls up in your driveway with the car, but then you had to teach her how to drive manual?? Did you mean to say she PUSHED the gsr from the dealer to your driveway?

The dealership is less than half a mile away from our house and theres only 1 stop light in between which of course she stalled out at

5-6k rpm on a Mustang is practically redline......

And you launch at 5-6krpm on a open diff mustang with the shitty ass stock tires. NICE.

Yeah, LOTS of rw spinning but it picks up after around 20mph

The question is why?

I would expect the new generation Mustang V6 to have over 200hp btw.

You realised that if you launched at a lower RPM you wouldnt spin much if all.. and actually be faster.

Launching at such a high rpm isn't helping out the clutch at all.

Yeah i dont launch that high on the mustang all the time, i do it more on my 944 which has better weight distribution and less spin

I can see that happening, it says an 84 944 Porsche, that probably doesn't cost much anymore.

The 944 was my mom's friend's son's and he went away to college and didnt want it so my mom's friend offered it to me , like i'd pass up an offer like that. Its been garage kept for 10 years and is in pretty good condition, about 50k miles, perfect exterior but some carpet fade in the interior. I guess I'm just lucky...

With such a clean car, you still launch that high.... :cwm27:

No offense but double clutching is used for decelerating a car through turns. Contrary to F&F movies it doesn't make your car any faster at the drag strip. As far as the V6 Mustang goes, I would think that it is just a little slower then the teg through the 1/4 mile, after that it should get waxed (haha the 3.8 litre has no top end frenzy). I use to own a 2000 GS-R (A whole month and a half before some lady totalled it). They are pretty stinking quick. Put an exh. on the teg and that mustang will really be seeing lights. I couldn't believe how restrictive the teg's exh. system was. What idiot designed that stock exh. system? Then again i've heard that the V6 stang has 4 catalytic converters from a mechanic.
