Hey guys. I have an '89 Probe, and I wanna change it from an Automatic tranny to a manual. I was wondering how much it would cost, and what I'd need to buy. I'll be doing the labour myself, but I would also like it if you guys can tell me, roughly, how much it would cost if I wanted it professionally replaced.
And I was ALSO wondering if I can replace my engine, from an I4 to a V6. Right now I have a 4 cylinder 12 valve engine. Just give me some tips.
Please and Thanx

you can do the change over. a list of small things needed are clutch,
manual flywheel, trans, clutch pedal assembly, slave cylinder, all the lines to and from the trans, shifter and linkages, axles, intermediate axle on pass side. the parts would cost around 1000 bucks used. the labor is the pain unless you can do it yourself. of course a new clutch kit and lines. let me know if i can help you with anything.

Upon all those parts. will your mounts work? tranny and engine mounts. The pedal support bar will have to be changed. To fit the 3 new pedals. The car's cpu will have to be changed. The wiring harness, sensors. to name a liitle more. you can relocate the mounts. by cutting them and welding. I wish you the best of luck. :smokin:

Yes, if you choose to do this all for one second in the quarter mile, depending on your driving.. then good luck, my advice is to find out how well the v6 fits from the 2nd gen if its possible and swap out the tranny with the engine as well as the ecu and such from the newer car. I own a 93 pgt and it kills the turbo probes stock so i don't know what you've done to your car but it would make an awsome sleeper project with the v6 :bigthumb:

Turbo guys must not know how to drive, or your car is not stock. The numbers are waaaaay against you.

Turbo 4cyl in the probes are slower than the 2.5L v-6's.
The V-6's have more HP and FP tourqe than the turbos.
The V-6 has over 170HP
The V-6 design was the replacement in the 93 and newer probs for the turbo models.
The older 89 thu. 92 model v-6 were the american made 3.0L's and had very poor performance.

uhhhh
yer wrong.....
Turbo 4's have faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, but cannot handle as well.
Check Car and Driver.
