My brother just got a Tiburon, but it came without a manual. What does the ECT switch next to gear shift lever do?

Thanks for your help.

When you engage the ECT also known as the PWR button it tells the transmission to redline every gear before shifting, taking full advantage of your powerband. While in Normal the transmission will shift at 3 or 4 thousand RPM's insted of the redline.
In short it makes the Tiburon feel more sporty.

Yea I only know since my last car had one and i kad to look it up in the owner's manual to see what it did.

When you push the button to the PWR/ECT button it is like telling the motor to make as much horsepower that it possibly can, and then put all of it down to the pavement.

Oh Yea TibsBeatAll thanks for the complement.

Ok I'm not for sure of the exact year that Hyundai discontinued the ECT button for the Tiburon.
I have a 1999 Tiburon FX (Just got it about 2 weeks ago)
So i am new to Hyundai cars and don't know all that much about them yet. But I think that they were in the cars in 1997-2001? Not sure on when they discontinued the ECT.

Oh yes and it is sadly only on Automatic transmissions (Which mine is) (bummer, i wanted a Stick; because they are funner to drive)
But my dad's friend has an idea of swapping in a Stick or at least a Manumatic (part auto part stick)

~Um yea i think that's about it?

why would it be on a manual anyway? if ya want it to redline every gear then just dont shift until redline. Just think about it. maybe it will sink in

yeah, get a manual.

btw, if you were thinking about switching over to a manual, and you own a 97-01 tib, check out the RD Tiburon forum on www.hyundaiperformance.com. there is a nice little write up on how to do it i think.(cant check because hp.com is being slow right now.)

actually, its right here.
