I was wondering if anyone encounters new style (99+) mustangs in the junkyard. I've always been skeptical about taking a trip out there jsut to see what's up and perhaps searching for a future project of my own, but seeing as how the cars are relatively new and not very many are scrapped as much as wrecked... The junkyard guys chop shop all the good ones that come in, don't they? So it is virtually impossible to find good stuff... just replacement things.
Also, do insurance companies take what's left of your car once you total it (eg - high hp, alcohol, stupidity thread). What wold they do with it and how could I cash in on some of these?

I've only ever seen one newer style Mustang in a junkyard out of all the times I have been, which is quite a lot.
As far as insurance companies and totaling cars, I'm not totally sure how that works. I think that the owner might have the option to take all his aftermarket parts off before the car is junked. Or the owner could buy it back. At least that's what happened when my buddy's Z34 got totaled.

my friend had a modded integra, the only way for him to get his aftermarket parts back was if he coudl replace them with stock parts. He got his rims back, but he couldn't find most of the engine components in time.

If you have a car with a lot of mods. Engine work etc.., If you want it to all be covered by an insurance company. You need to call them up and have a big stack of reciepts for the parts and an appraiser will look over you car. Then he will appraise your car at a cerftian price and your insurance will be re-adjusted for that value. Which usually sucks cause it ends up making ya insurance payments a lot.
