sanding and bondo

I have a 1977 pontiac grand prix and the exterior is in not so good condition. there is a hole behind the back windshield (almost on the trunk) that has been rusted through. I am wanting to know how I can fix this, keeping in mind that I have never done this before and my car knowledge is not great. Thanks.
