The poor old terribly over shadowed Nissan S12 Silvia or 84-87 200sx in the USA even in the USA we could have bought the ca18et turbo. till 85 that is. My younger brother has two and they are great looking cars and they have good power in stock form.

can anyone point me in the direction of what i might do to make one of those square-body Mustangs more "drift" friendly?? (i'm curious)
it would seem like a good idea to use a pretty common car with the favorable potential for HP.i think the Ford mustang is suposed to be some version of a sports car
i think we as North Americans have atleast five-ten yrs each of buying tires, clutches, bumpers and fenders. smashin' and crashin in a practice car seems to make sense to me. if you busted up my cousins "FD" he'd be livid!!!! i'd be super-silly to put my Starlets rear bumper(or lack there of) up on the guard rail or down in some ditch.
anyway,...
guys(/girls) just get a lift two towns over and convince some sofa squattin, glazey eyed T.V. remote control appendage havin', gentlemen to pawn his "5.0" off on ya. the reason it dont run cause he forgot how to put gas in the thing!!
my vote would be for the middle aged Ford Mustang(not the classics or the fresh new ones)
oh and one more thing, this is my first post to this board so please excuse if i was rude and or ignorant.
thanks,
Panda
P.S.
i 'm looking for another Starlet
drop me aline if you know anyone
about to put one up for adoption,
please

Hotchkis has a line of "drift spec" stuff for stangs. Nothing you couldnt do yourself, its just a road race setup modfied for oversteer. Make sure you get a posi-trac or welded diff
Post pics of your Starlet!

I'd like to give MK2 Ford Escorts a vote, the 2 door and van models especially!
Lock that diff up, slam the suspension, and stick some garbage tyres on the back - instant dorifto machine! :D Amazing just how well something so old, floppy, and underpowered can hang the tail out and just h o l d it right out there.
I had a MK2 van with a 1600 pushrod motor, twin webers, locked diff, slammed suspension and wide, low offset 13" wheels, it was a drift demon! I think the extra weight and height in the van body helped swing the tail out....

trust me crown vics drift. on dry ground you have to do a corner prety quickly and then mash the gas (they patch out so easily). on wet just drive normaly and those tiers will be squealing all the time. they dont like to be straight though they slide all over. i need to go find an empty parking lot some time and really find out what this car does. instead of a small road with black ice and a fence...... :uhoh:

i've heard FC's are very hard to learn how to drift in. '80s Supras are used, but sporadically. they're about the only good drifting Supra. the next 2 generations were too heavy, so you rarely see them.
i'd still go with a 240SX...although FC's have alot of modability too.
are you kidding me? me and my cousin both learned to drift in FC's, him in an S4 me in an S5. the 50/50 weight ratio makes it amazing... and they get sideways easy too, you can even do power over drifts, so hp and torque are plenty. anyways from my experience and people I know(my cousin) rx-7's are great to learn in, and even great for experienced drifters

I don't know about using a cop car you bought at some auction. They're all automatic and if there are manuals I've yet to see one.
Nissan Sunny's and Toyota Starlet's need more recognition.
As do the oldies...
Bmw 2002 if properly sorted.
Old TVR's would be a nice change of pace.
MG's
How about an Audi Ur-Quattro?
Porsche 944, and 928,(mmmmm, v8 Porsche)
Old european Escorts.
Ooo Ooo how 'bout a DB4 (if you can afford one)
Old Jaguars maybe?

Ah, the Sunny. How about the Cherry?
And if you're going to throw the old RWD escorts into the list, you might as well add the Opel GT, Manta, etc.

Cheap cars to drift.. hmm..
Murker XR4ti
Isuzu Impulse RS(RWD turbo)
SA/FB rx7
gen camaro/firebirds
e30 bmw's
foxbody mustang would be a good choise to do the fact you can go to just about any junkyard and get replacement parts for them. Aftermarket is HUGE and parts are CHEAP. And they sound bad ass. :)
mk2/3 supra
starion/conquest
z31 300zx turbo
If I was into drifting I would get an old Chevy nova coupe, put in an aluminum 454, 4speed muncie, and take off as much weight off the front end is I could. Then black primer it with some cheap red diamond racing wheels, ala rat rod style. :grinyes:

how about a ford ranger/mazda b4000? They're light trucks with desent motor, supercharger it and add exhaust stuff and you've got a potent engine. lower it for more safety, coilover suspension, gut the interior and replace the rear panels with fiberglass ones and hood with carbon fiber, you've got a lightish vehicle with good power and a very noseheavy weight bias (i'd say like 65-70% front at leased) and a long wheelbase. shouldn't that be a good combo for drifting?
And don't tell me they cant drift because my dad has a mazda b3000 and it can squeal it's tires in a straight line for about 1500 rpm, or through the whole range if you turn, and it can drift with a little clutch kick, all you'd need to do is install a handbrake as opposed to the foot parking brake and you should be good.
