Dexicool

Any opinons on this coolant vs Prestone type?

The Prestone I have is GM Dexcool approved. I don't see any reason to suspect that is any worse or better than than Havoline, which originally marketed Dexcool. Prestone has been around for a long time!

I Trust The Prestone.it's All The Same To Me If It's Dexcool.
But I Started Using That Universsal Mix From Prestone.that
Mixes With Any Antifreeze.

What I've seen in our Blazer, and what I've read all over the net, I wouldn't put Dexcool in an RV toilet to keep it from freezing. Go with the Prestone.

prestone makes dexcool....dexcool is not a name brand, it is a type. Prestone is a name brand and they make ethenol based (red) and glycol based (green)

Dexcool is a Havoline product, Texaco. It does contain an ingredient that the Prestone and others does not. I've also read that Ford calls out to not use Dexcool in their cars and trucks. If interested I can find the link to this info, maybe, been awhile since I read it.

After alot of research and cooling system probs., I've flushed
and put the green in my 97 GMC. All is good.
I would only use Dex if I was sure I didn't have any leaks and the
cooling system wouldn't be messed with for a long time. It seems
to be great stuff until it's contaminated, then you're gonna have
big probs. unless you're on top of it.

You can use either Dex or old school (that is red or green) BUT NOT MIXED!! So, as long as you completely flush out ALL 12 qts (or how ever much your vehicle holds) then you are safe to use either one. However, from what I understand the reason GM started using Dex is because the aluminum now used in radiators. Supposedly the green stuff chemically reacts to the aluminum when conditions are right. I flushed my Dex out and repalced w/green prior to aquiring this info but 1 1/2 yrs later, I still have no problems. I also changed to green when I flushed my mothers Blazer, everything was fine until she had her oil changed and they topped off her reservoir with Dex. First time she turned on the heater, heater core went out on her, at the oil stations expense!!

GM recommends that you add the sealant tablets when you flush a system and refill with Dexcol. They are six or eight large tablets that help seal any leaks since Dexcol seems to leak where dissimilar metals expand and contract differently.
