alt is overcharging my battery

lately my battery light has been coming on when i nail the gas and i checked my voltmeter when the light was coming on and my battery is being charged to like 19.5 volts and tonight i noticed that all my interior lighting and headlights get a lot brighter too, so i was wondering is this a problem with my alt or could it be just a messed up connection?

well your alternator suppose to have something is there that regulates the volts coming out, thats probably broken

I bet there's a blown diode (rectifier diode, if you want to be specific) in the alternator. I think you can replace them, but I don't really remember if it's worth it or not.

throw in a couple MMATS juggernaut subs, 2 good 3000Watt amps.. and go haul some ass with 19 Volts HAHAH..

Your voltage regulator on your alternator is shot. Same thing happened to me. You can replace it but the bushings in the alternator might be fried...

It would be the regulator part.....not the diodes. The diodes are part of the rectifier circuit that converts the AC to DC. It is then regulated to about 14V by the regulator.

definite regulator problem, and if you keep driving like that, your alt will burn out and be useless.

well it's still under warranty, this is my third alt in like 4 months :mad: my first one fried, then the second one was a dud and this one worked good for like 3 months, thanks for the help :biggrin:
