1991 acura integra upgrading

Hi there. I have a 1991 acura integra as my first car and I am 16 so i wanna get it running fast for racing so maybe i can make side money  I do not know much about integra engines or anything since I grew up around muscle cars. I was wandering what a very good performance engine for it might be that will run fast with lots of hp?

how many miles you got on the engine in there now. probably alot since its 91, but you could either rebuild it and slap a turbo kit on, or build a LSVTEC with your block and a VTEC head, the LSVTEC would end up being cheaper but not by much by the time you finish, but the turbo B18A would be faster.

how fast do you want to be though? like what kinda cars do you wanna show up?

I just wanna show up alot of cars. mainly around here its muscle cars, integras, afew supras and rx7, lots of civics and eclipses, camaros, probes, and afew other ordinary cars that afew have build up but not to max and then others just rice em out

well the civics, NA eclipses, V6 camaros wont be a problem at all, but those turbo DSMs dont take much to get FAST. and probe GT's supras/rx7's are quick.

Id say since youd need to rebuild anyways, buy a B20 longbock, I am pretty sure the oldest it could be is a 97, so should be good condition, especially from a reputable importer, get the block sleeved, crower rods, turbo cams, and if the edlebrock kits are out id go with that from what ive been hearing they come with a new intake manifold with 2 rails, so 8 injectors, and the hondata s200 sounds like it has tons of cool features. if you could pour about 15 psi through that B20 Id bet you'd be keeping up with most of the cars your lookin at.

I have a 91 integra as well lol sept im 17, just got in about a month ago, kick ass cars i tell ya, so we got a b18a1 as our engine im assuming your bone stock like me. Im dont know a whole lot about my car as of yet but if you upgrade to a b18c1 which is the GSR Vtec i believe, you could drop a good 30 ish hp right there, add your good old proper intake and exhaust drop another 5-10hp there, get a performance chip, blah blah blah.

I need a rebuild im sitting on 143 000 miles. My engine looks excellent and runs great, but i bet shes gonna give soon.

If anyone has any input on getting engine parts for a 91 integra please spill i'd like to find out as much as he does too.

the B18C1 actually has 40HP more than the B18A and with the B18A's wearing out it has even more. but a B18C longblock is probably gonna run as much as it would to rebuild what you got into a LSVTEC with a good amount of power over the B18C, and plenty more torque.

Where can you get a b18c1? how much?
will they strap onto the standard tranny that i have right now?

yeah, it will bolt up to your tranny, but you gotta go from OBD0-OBD1(possibly OBD2 depending on what year engine you get) and buy the GSR ecu and you should be able to just modify your harness to make it work.

what did you pay for your 91???

I paid 2400 canadian.

What do you mean by

Quote:OBD0-OBD1(possibly OBD2 depending on what year engine you get)

any wouldn't the engines have the same engine mounts?

I just bought a 1991 LS non-VTEC from a guy who worked at Jotech racing in Garland. The Non-VTEC DOHC engine puts out a lot more torque than a VTEC engine (like the GSR). It my be harder to get big hp out of an LS but torque is what you need to rip people up off the line. I've seen an LS engine and a GSR engine put side by side and supercharged. The GSR made around 260hp but only 118lbs of torque. The LS only made 180hp but was putting out 178lbs of torque. Both engines have a good side and bad side but I'd rather have good midrange power and high torque levels than have to wait for redline to make full power and get wheel spin every time I shift. :naughty:

that sounds like BS to me, one reason the B18B has more torque than the B18C is because they arent really 1.8's, either of them, the B18b is 1.834 I think and the B18C is 1.797 liters, not much.

but if the GSR made 260HP, it would have to be around 7500-8k Im guessing and using the formula it would have to be pushing around 170 lbs - 182 lbs of torque at the same RPM as peak HP, and usually peak torque is a bit earlier and then its even more torque at your peak level, and im not guessing on this statement, torquexRPM/5252=HP.

and the LS im guessing it peaks like 6800 so then thats 140 pounds @ the same RPM, and I saw a dyno where the LS made 160HP and had 140 ft/lbs. I dont think it is gonna have a peak torque with the same numbers as its HP. Ive heard of this alot but never on hondas 1.8's usually it is huge V8's/V10's.

and what i meant about the OBD0/1/2 thing is 94-95 integras are OBD1, 96+ are OBD2. 2nd gens(yours) are OBD0. so if you get a 94-95 GSR engine then you can use a skunk2 OBD0-1 jumper, im pretty sure they make a 0-1 and a 1-2, not sure if they make a 0-2 but if not maybe you could use a 0-1, then a 1-2 tapped into it, Im not good with the different diagnostics systems hacking, Im only good at the actual bolting it in stuff :smokin:

and check out hmotorsonline, I got my B20 form them and it is really clean, and ive only heard good about them , plus alot of businesses I talk to just want your money and then dont wanna talk to you, the guy i ordered it from talked to me for an aditional 30 minutes or so taliknig about different manifolds, harnessed, OBD setups and whatnot, even helped me find what timing belt i needed for my ZC that i didnt get from them, and i havent dealt wiht other engine importers but dealt with lots of electronic sales reps and "if you didnt buy it from us we cant help you" is usually what I hear.

Hi, i just got a 91 acura integra ls as my first car with 222,000 mi on it and was wondering if I should fix it up or get something newer. The car's pretty fast already but A LOT of miles on it so I dont know what to do. and the interior is pretty messed up 2. the sunroof glass has a big crack on it and was wondering if i should fix it like put new body kit, cf hood, system, maybe new engine, and several other things. I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Yes keep it. It has alot of potental. Remember that a honda engine has half the miles that a domestic has. if you want advise on some parts and where to get them let me know

should start a new thread about your car if you need info, not bring old ones back up.
