I DRIVE A 5 SPD 99 CIVIC EX 4DR. I DID ALL THE BASIC MODS, EXHUAST, INTAKE, HEADERS.

MY PROBLEM IS MY ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS POPPING UP. AND IT SAYS I'M RUNNING EITHER RICH OR LEAN. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY FUEL OR TIMING, OR VALVES, SO I CHECKED ALL THAT AND DID EVERYTHING TO TRY TO FIX IT....SO I THOUGHT!

PROBLEM GOT WORSE(FEW MONTHS LATER).....NOW WHEN I START UP IN THE MORNING. THE RPM STAYS @ 1000 LIKE AT IDLE. MY RPM FLUCTUATES FRM 1500 TO DYING OUT. THIS ALSO HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY....THE SUCKER IS EATING GAS LIKE CRAZY. AND I HAD ABOUT ENOUGH.....:confused:

I REALLY CAN'T AFFORD A NEW ENGINE, BUT I CAN'T LIVE LIKE THIS EITHER.....CAN SOMEONE HELP ME? :frown:

check your o2 sensors on your down pipe and cat make sure there or connected. Did you take it to honda and have them hook it up to the computer?

I HAD THAT CHECK, AND HAD THE O2 SENSOR ON THE CAT REPLACE JUST FOR SAFE MEASURES. BUT THE PROBLEM DIDN'T GO AWAY.

I JUST GOT IT BACK FROM HONDA (I PUT ALL MY STOCK PARTS BACK ON IN ORDER TO DROP IT OFF AT HONDA), THEY SAID THAT MY TP SENSOR WAS LOOSE AND IT TRIGGERED MY MAP SENSOR AND 3 OF MY CYLINDERS TO MISFIRE....THEY SAID THAT THEY FIXED IT AND THE FLUCTUATION STOP, BUT MY CAR NOW HAS A REALLY BAD SPUTTERING PROBLEM...ANY SUGGESTIONS OF WHAT CAN BE CAUSING THAT? THIS IS REALLY GETTING ANNOYING....ONE PROBLEM AFTER ANOTHER....:mad:

what dp you mean by sputtering? I have seen an improperly adjusted throttle position sensor cause a major hesitation in throttle response... is that what you are meaning?

WHEN I ACCELERATE, THE CAR DON'T WANT TO MOVE. THEN WHEN THE RPM IS HIGH ENOUGH, THE CAR JUMPS....WHAT I MEAN IS THAT THE ACCELERATION IS NOT SMOOTH....ON LOW RPM IT HESITATES, THEN JUMPS...I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S A TIMING PROBLEM OR VALVE PROBLEM, OR MAYBE SOMETHING NEW ALL TOGETHER...ANY SUGGESTIONS? :confused:

ok this isnt a civic i am talking about but hey it might just help you, we had a ford zx2 ( until we traded it in for a 99 civic ex about a month ago ) but anyways, we had to take the car to ford and drop it off, it had the same problem you are talking about with yours and turned out it was alot of things causing it to do this...

1. coil was bad
2. vacuum leak
3. spark plugs were bad

so all in all it caust us 400$ to get it fixxed so maybe you want to check those things out.
i have a 94 civic dx and it surges when i first crank it, it goes from like 1000 to 1500 for about 2 minutes and then stops but i have also noticed that when i get on it from a dead stop that it drives normal and then when i hit about 4500 rpm's its like it gets a burst of power , and no i dont have vtec so i would like to know what causes my car to do that?

well i think i have said enough....
