Paint Sealant Question

Hello Everyone,

I have a quick question on paint sealant. Almost a month ago I purchased a new vehical. Part of the deal was them putting on a paint sealant on my car. I owned three new vehicals this last one being my third and I never had sealant on the previous two. I am throughly happy with the finish, I have very glossy, very smooth even after washes. I havent waxed it yet but did apply a paint cleaner / renewer that they supplied me with before I drove it home that first night. The name was Auto Armor and their website is http://www.ecpinc.net. Now I asked the detailer if I can wax my vehical and they said that its not a problem if I do.

I guess Im trying to get a feel for if I should wax it or not. Like I said the finish right now is very smooth and glossy. I dont want to go and apply waxes over that if it is gonna hurt the sealant. If I do wax am I gonna risk damaging the sealant thus wasting the whole point in having it put on in the first place? Will waxing help protect the sealant? Im not too knowledgeable about paint sealants and their technology as far as how long they last (from recent research Iv'e read anywhere from 3-6 months)

Can anyone fill me in on the technology of a paint sealant and wether I should or should not wax right away.

Thanks in advance

Paint sealant is like wax, but will have better protection & last longer. Sealant chemically bonds to the paint surface. Waxing the sealant wont harm it, I wouldnt bother waxing since its not gonna last any longer. Your best bet is to re-apply the paint sealant every 6 months or so, or wax every 2 months w/out sealant. The paint sealant I use air cures in 36hrs so no washing or waxing in that time.

jackasssi,

Thank you for your reply. So the sealant will have better protection than a wax. What would be a good sealant to use lets say when I want to go and re-apply in the future? Is this product you talk about that air cures in 36 hours something you sell? Also is there a product you need to use to clean off the existing sealant in preps for the new sealant or will any cleaning polish do the trick? Is it best applied by an orbital buffer or can you get the same results by hand? Sorry for all the questions just trying to learn as much as I can about this process.

Thanks,

Yes paint sealant protects better than wax
I dont sell the sealant - Hi-Temp Long Term Paint Sealant(Terminator II) can be found @ www.topoftheline.com // instructions (http://www.hitempinc.com/HT-062.html) also the Poly spray helps removal of sealant when applying. Orbital buffer & hand application will give the same results - only the buffer is much easier & faster.
Light polishing will remove any remaining sealant prior to next application. I recommend polishing before waxing or sealant. Helps add life to the paint.
