Squeaky Honda Civic Breaks

My 99 Honda Civic brakes (with 40K miles) just recently started to squeak - only when I brake softly, not at a hard brake. Also, on a soft brake, they sqeak during the first half of the "braking process" and not toward the end. What could be potential causes?
Thanks for the help!

dust could be the problem...shoot it out with the hose....if not then maybe ur rotars need resurfacing but i doubt it cuz you only got 40,000 miles on it. if the hose no work take the break pad out and sand it down a little...dont forget to wipe it clean...laters

The problem with 90% of all brake squeeks is the piston rubbing against the back of the pad. Put some duct tape on the back of the pad and it WILL stop squeeking. I know you think that is wierd but it works and I managed an Auto Parts store for 5 years and have cured this problem many times.

Most likely the BRAKE pads are worn. Brakes should also be clean/adjusted/lubed atleast every 15k for Hondas. You should use Molykote on the pad shims & back of pads, not duct tape:iceslolan
