AEM bypass valve questions

Hey guys, I have AEM CAI.

I live in the Bay Area [California], so it dosnt rain horribly, but once winter comes, it can get pretty bad. I'm wondering how worried I should be about hydrolock? I've read many times now about people sucking up small ammounts of water through the CAI and messing up their motor.

With a dropped car, and in bad rain, i could easily see the wheel splashing up water into the area where the air filter is. I was gonna deal with the hp loss / sound loss, and buy a bypass valve to be safe, but now i've read that the bypass valve dosnt even help unless the filter is completely submerged.

So.. since rain season's coming up in october/november, should I:

1. sell my CAI and buy a SRI
2. buy a aem bypass valve
3. i have nothin to worry about unless im driving through puddles.

Thanks a lot

if im not mistaken i think u have misunderstood. i believe it should say that the bypass valve works even when its submerge. i got one for my 92 integra ls but somehow there was a problem with it fitting it corectly. the company that i bought it from said my cai belong to a vtec model. the funny thing is mine fits perfectly i also have seen a guy with a 92 gsr and his was totally different then mine another thing too was that his pipe was actually smaller then my pipe, btw the valve didn't fit cuz it was too small like it belong in a gsr. well what i did was said freak it and sent it back. their was slight problem though, for me to install the valve i had to cut my cai. now what i did to fix that was i bought a 3 inch rubber tube from a race shop and put 2 clamps at the end, its now back to a cai again. when it rains which will be during those same months as urs since im also in cali is to remove the bottom portion of my cai and install the filter to the upper portion. walla! i got a sri for the rainy seasons, ingenious don't u think?

I dont think so, I think the valve will only functions when submerged in water. Put a snorkel on with the air inlet above the roof if you plan on driving in 6" or more of water. It definately wouldnt hurt to have one, I sure dont plan on installing one. If I pop the motor, that gives me a reason to junk 4-banger & go rear engine small-block chevy RWD. Buick GN turbo would be good idea, just thought of that one:bigthumb: or make a wheel standers :icon16:

hey config i went to the aem website to double check the info and to get a more of an understanding and ur right about it only working only when the valve is submerge but at the same time, i think that is the supidest thing ive ever heard. seriously the only time the valve works is when the filter is totally submerge in water? for the filter to be completely submerge in water the water level has to be at least 10 inches high almost to the top of the bumper, thats a flood to me and think about it would u want to drive a car if the water is that high? imo after doing the reading from aem i think its just a way for the company to gain some extra dough from u the consumer. last year it was raining really really hard, and i was getting worried about my intake sucking water i had to stop at a gas station to make sure nothing bad has happened but nothing was wrong even though my filter was wet because i forgot to put the splash guard back on and my car was fine. honestly i never seen any one where the water went up the intake and cause a hydrolock, it's an exagageration i bet, and its sound cool too when u go to ur local race shop and they say once u have this there won't be a problem for u to drive in the rain. there never was unless the water level is past the filet level. so if i were u i wouldn't get it, and if u want a safety precaution cut ur intake like i did to make it a short ram in the rainy seasons you'll save 40-50 bucks for that pointless valve.and u jackassi or what ever ur name is what the hell u doing here if u like domestic so much? talking about a turbo charge buick please... heck u don't even have a cai so what do u know? nothing, go back to chill with ur corvette buddies if theres any, thats probabaly why ur here cuz there isn't many:loser:
