Rejoining the 4th Gen Brethren!

Well... I was looking for a project car, but this is rediculous...

You know how lots of peeps been having accidents with their 4th gens here lately? Well... Today my brother had an 'accident'.
He was on his way to work today... got about half way there, when all the sudden smoke started coming out from under his hood and out of the tail pipe really bad... he noticed the engine temp was through the roof... before he could do anything, the car just cut off all together and he coasted to a stop on the side of the highway.... he called my mom and told her what the deal was so she could come pick him up. She stopped by my office on the way to get him.... so I was thinking to myself "Ok, so now I've GOT to put a new engine in there" and thinking to myself *Yay! :bigthumb: *..... well... on the way towing the car home, my brother wasn't paying attention when my mom hit the brakes, and he ended up rear ending my mom's truck... I guess it's a good thing the civic is so much lower then my mom's truck, because most of the damage was the hood (bent almost in half at a 90degree angle), also the uppper radiator support has been bent in.. in turn bending and breaking the radiator in half... also both front headlights are kaput... but everything looks quite fixable though.
But since my brother's car is now effectively screwed up, he is taking over payments on my 98 civic, and I'm getting his car.

So... for a while I'm without a car, but hell, now at least I'll have the money to spend and fix this sucker up real nice (since no car payment, no car insurance, no gas to buy). But with me working full time, and college about to start back up, it's going to take me months to get it back drivable again.

The car is a 91 Civic Hatch DX by the way... any suggestions on things I Should do?

i was kinda leaning towards the CRX Si... cuz its lighter and the Si is easier to do a swap with... but if you dont mind.. keep it and run a CRVtec with all the basic bolt on's... that should make you fast enuff

slam it with koni yellows and some skunk 2's

15 inch Spoon Replica's

paint it all yellow with a CF hood

A 91 CRX Si is actually 10lbs heavier then a 91 DX hatch.

And no... my plans are more along the lines of a D16Y8/Z6... turbo.
Koni yellows w/ H&R Sport springs.
RS*R exhaust
WingsWest RS body kit
BLUE carbon fiber hood
custom blue interior
white exterior w/ white rims (racing hart)

And whatever else I can think of...

Thanks Setanta.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe dxhatchback is some 13year old kid locked up on computer somewhere that doesn't know what he's talking about at all.....

As for the suggestions of B20 swaps... for now I'm just going to go for the sohc vtec, because it's something more managable for me to do right now.
Besides I can't find enough information about how to do the B20 swap to do it myself (head swapping, wiring, ect.).
But I've got info out the arse on how to do the sohc vtec swap.
Maybe a while down the line... like a few years from now I'll end up doing a Bseries swap... or I still intend to buy a companion 4gen4door so perhaps I could do one in that whenever I do get it too... (that too is going to be a few years from now).

as for what I'm going to do to this car now, my plans are pretty much set.

good luck with the car man, I just did the same thing except I went under a focus, bout the same damage though, it's not hard to fix, I got a parts car and it took me two days to replace, AC condenser, radiator, headlights, straighten radiator support, fenders, and bumper. You'll be alright.

sounds like your brother blew the head gasket. depending on the miles on the engine the block & head might be warped. but i say....replace it anyways. then you can at least drive the car until you get the sohc vtec :bigthumb:

I'm not really hurting for transportation at the moment... I've got my motorcycle still to ride around town... also for going and picking up parts I can use my mom's truck.... I think I'll be ordering a D16Z6 from Nippon Motors first thing Monday morning and then tear it down and start replacing parts on it and cleaning it off when it gets here. (I've already got all the MPFI stuff and various other Si parts just laying around here at the house)
New projector headlights are already in the mail.
I'm waiting on the hood until I got the engine done with because I want to get a blue carbon fiber hood... cheapest I've seen them for is $500 from nopi.

Does anyone have any idea where I can get A/C hardware from besides a junk yard? PM me

As for what my brother did, yeah... first thing I thought of was the head gasket..... but come to find out the dumbass kept on driving for a while after the engine started smoking while he called his office and told them what was happening... and not until HIS BOSS said "You'd better stop and call for a tow." did my brother actually pull over and stop (a good 5 minutes later at least)... afterwards he said he couldn't get the car back started again.

you would be amazed what it takes to seriously warp a block. the head gasket blew twice on the a6 from my si. first time because it was bad and second time because i let a shop replace it and they over torqued. replaced it again and the a6 run strong as ever. the first time the gasket blew i stopped driving it before it got incredibly bad. but the second time i was on the way to drop victorian off at school. by the time we got to the school the temp gage was all the way up. i took my chances and drove 10mi straight to the mechanic. my block ended up warped a little but not enough to make a real difference.

actually i learned a couple of good lessons. one of them is... don't go to a shop :iceslolan

good luck with your sohc vtec project! should be fun
