It's always exciting, or should I say usually exciting when a model company releases a new kit of a new evo of a car and you get to open it to see what kind of job they did on it. In this case it's Fujimi's newly molded Honda NSX Type R, a welcome kit as we wait to see what the complete redesign of the NSX will look like. Overall it seems nice, the parts are thin like Tamiya's and the body engravings are tight.
First a comparison to Tamiya's body dimensions.

The wheels are 17", here compared to Revell ITR wheels, the Fujimi is actually a smidge smaller.

The molded in upper half engine is well engraved, but leaves you wanting a full engine. Get one from a Revell or Tamiya kit if you like.

There is a shallow door panel engraving, at least it's something.

The hood, front and rear lower body work looks like it will fit good with a little tweaking. The locating tabs for the rear one actually seems to interfere with letting it mate to the body correctly.

The parts trees. All windows are seperate parts, the body has lines engraved inside the roof to simplify cutting out the T roof.

:bigthumb: :bigthumb: Thanks! Much clearer then HS's scans.
Engine top-half + engine bottom-half = why not just make the engine?
All windows are seperate parts, the body has lines engraved inside the roof to simplify cutting out the T roof.Exactly what I expect from Fujimi. Stretch every tool to the max. They probably don't approve any project they can't make at least 3 kits from... ;)
Thank you Fujimi, for saving me the trouble for this conversion!!

Mkaythnx for posting the pics. Glad to have mine on the way from HLJ! Hey, that rhymed..:bloated: :biggrin2: :icon16: :thefinger
Also glad to have a couple of the Revell kits (and the original Tamiya NSX) in the stash to give it a proper powerplant and chassis. They may have said "snap kit" (Revell) but the detail is like a glue kit.
So I'm wondering if I'll end up w/a mostly Revell model w/Fujimi body, or more of a mish-mash of the two.

Does the kit come with xenon headlight lenses like tamiya have in some of their kits?

I dinked around with the kit last nite thinking about the engine or lack of. Looking at my Tamiya version which does have an engine and located under a screen, not all that visible. The Fujimi also includes screen, and even without the screen the engine isn't in full view. Anyway, look at these pics and decide for yourself if it's worth the effort, my opinion is detail painting the Fujimi upper engine half will give nearly the same effect. If you decide to use the Tamiya chassis under it, it appears it will fit almost perfectly.
Looking through the rear glass.

With glass open, which Fujimi doesn't provide hinges.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/323650nsxopeneng.JPG
Went ahead and glued on the body pieces, it took some sanding to get the fit you see, now a little filling and rescribing is required.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/634422nsxfront.JPG
The hood definitely needs to be glued down, also had a little flash at the front edge.

It's like a curbside-fake-out. There's not really and engine, despite what you see... Wonder what it'll do to classification for contests, etc.?

It would be considered an engine, so no curbside classification. Considering Fujimi doesn't do engines anymore I think the design of this car was a big factor in deciding to kit it. They knew they could get away with the half engine with near the same effect as a full one, otherwise they wouldn't have done the NSX at all.

I disagree, a curbside model is supposed to be viewed like a car at the curbside, no open panels but there can be an engine visible, like in this one. Viewed from a slight distance, not up close under a magnifying glass. It's a curbside kit, there is no "real" engine detail, and no way to easily view it anyway. I would allow it in curbside competition, what little you see of the engine won't be enough to sway any judge's voting unless it's rigged.

Then the common interpretation of curbside is totally wrong, most people think it means no engine. In your view, based on rules knowledge I'm sure, this model could be entered in either class, right?

I wonder if the NSX kit will even have the engine, since the back glass doesn't move and it'll have a solid engine cover panel... Maybe they'll just cut off the interior tub at the firewall...

Basically a curbside kit has no engine. The Fujimi NSX doesn't, it just has a one-piece relief that can only be paint detailed. The Revell and Tamiya NSX's are full detail, w/full engines, not just molded in relief detail.
Based on my limited knowledge, it could be entered in both classes, but it won't fare well against models with real engine and full chassis detail.
People have been known to build a model w/o detailing the engine, and gluing the hood shut, and that's legal for curbside. You just look at the model-no getting in/under it.

Do you mean the standard NSX? Because the NSX-R has engine detail molded in relief:

One piece that requires paint detailing. Counts for curbside in my book:wink:

*Include existing 'engine detail' even when it won't be visible?
*Alter tool to remove 'engine detail?' (and leave a gap in the tree? and include some other option?)
