Ok, i'm from the states, looking for a car. Tell me why i should get a g20.

right now i REALLY like the 3000gt twin turbo vr-4 because it's the closest thing to a skyline we get here in the states.

i'm listening!!

if you want the closest thing to a skyline, get a G35. its coming out Fall 2002. its the so called "skyline sedan" here in the states. its going to be a damn monster, over 200 hp and i believe about 200 lbs of torque. but if interested in a G right now, IMO, i suggest getting a P11, which is a 99+ G20, since they look good. and if you want better wheels, get the G20T. it also comes with LSD.

Well, if you have your mind on a VR4, get it. Dont get a 4 banger over that. Just my opinion.

If you have the fundage...get a G35 like it was said before...that car is gonna be bad.

VR4 is nice...too bad it'll be EXTREMELY hard to work on since of the stupid V6 that goes IN the car so many areas are hard to get to.
totally different cars you are comparing with though, the G20 vs. 3000GT so it'll be hard for me to convince you to get the G...but if $$$ is important, u can make a G20 (p10 or p11) very very capable with the amount of money u'll spend on buying a factory VR4. (99 being the newest 3000GT VR4..probably around $40K?)

Ick, IMO VR4's are big and too heavy. Get a 300zx TT or Supra TT instead. :D Like Luke said you can't really compare the VR4 and G20, unless you want to mod the G20 like crazy.

The G35 will have much more goodies packed with it for around 30K. I don't know the cost of a VR-4, but I doubt that the cost would be below 30K unless its used and since it's all-wheel drive, that would mean more weight and drivetrain components to sap engine power. And I also doubt you'll get the same amount of interior room and level of service that Infiniti is known for. My $.02

the VR4 would COMPLETELY DESTROY the G35 with its eyes closed (if it had eyes) it goes 0-60 in about 5secs...the G35? at the fastest, 7sec which isnt slow but certainly aint fast.

If you want one get one. Skylines are imported to the US by these guys.

http://www.motorex.net

They are righthand drive.

Also The G35 does NOT have the inline 6 ( RB26DETT ) that makes the Skyline what it is. It's going to have the V6 (VQ)

ehhh....G's aren't all that great new. For the budjet minded enthusiast they're too expensive for what they give you IMO. With the cars out right now and what's coming in the future...think about it good luck eh!

That's only the GT-R. The 'regular' Skylines come wiht a wide array of motors.

It's a decision you have to make of course. But... my dad has a 300zxtt that I used to drive around quite a bit when i live with my parents. They are two totally different cars. His is big and bulky, turns ok, and goes like stink (mods on that car are insane) <- my birthday and christmas presents to him :D I've had two G20's now, both P10s, and they've been anywhere from stock, to pretty well modded (where my current car sits now). I think the G20 is just a lot more fun to drive. It's smaller, turns much much better, isn't as fast in a straight line, but it's just a fun little tossable car. If that makes sense. The handling is what does it for me. and it's pretty quick (it's pretty well modded though too). I am really close to a 14 second 1/4 mile right now. Basically a good launch away. The Z I'd have to guess is somewhere in the mid 13's now, and that's with just a few simple bolt ons with stock boost. With the JWT ECU (and about 6psi more boost that goes with it) that car would be a rocket. Apples and Oranges...

Well, lemme tell you the reasons not to buy a Mitsu..

1)Questionable reliability (We've have two Mitsus, and they haven't been the greatest cars)
2) Hard to work on (they try to cram too much into a little space)
3) as my friend would say "I don't want no damn three diamonds"

As for the G35 it is a Skyline GT sedan. We get a VQ35DE probably producing no less than 255hp and 240ft/lbs of torque. (this is the same engine in the 2002 I35, Maxima, Altima SE V6) My guess is that it is going to have the same engine numbers as the 350Z, given that they are going to be slotted in the same price range. FYI, the G35 is RWD.

Just remember, if you spring for the VR-4, you'll have to dress & act accordingly. First, realize the "styling" of the Mitsu is about as subtle as a Jumbo Jet crash. Maybe this is Lido's legacy (remember the Stealth.... the world's most misnamed car?).

Anyway, the "Japanese Camaro" is best accesorized with gold neckchains, perhaps a chest rug, and skin-tight disco shirts. You'll have to visit small-town casinos, play country music at high volume, force you wife to double-layer her makeup & then enter Tammy Faye Bakker look-a-like contests.

If you still feel the need to pop for a Mitsu, get the ONLY VR-4 with any cred......the Group A Homologation Galant VR-4 !!

the only mitsu i would consider (besides the all-mighty EVO 1-7) is the 1st gen eclipse turbo, awd...4G motor is the next best thing after the SR!!

well, with 22,000 posts in a forum, i wanted to know why you guys love this car.

3kgt is a more sporty kinda car. i'm not really old, i'm single, and i like fast, stylish cars. i like the vr-4 cause it's hella fast and looks hella good.

but i just wanted to know why you guys loved the g20s.

Luke!!!! Your on crack. :) VR4's are fucken bloated pig's There not fast at all. I was sticking one dead even N/A on the freeway in my 200 Back in the day when I had CAI,exhaust, header, ecu.

Personally if I could start all over with the same amount of $$$$ to spend I would get a S13 240SX with a Built Silvia motor and a Indestructible 300ZX TT Tranny.

Skyline GTRs are heavy as hell too!!! just like the 3000GT VR4...however, a NA 3000GT is a glutton pig...those things are so freaking slow it's not even funny..should be illegal making those things.
if only the WRX was available in 1999...

lloyd_nickens

of course some one had to start in on the coveted Skyline.......

True it is heavy, but it is also a four door sedan in N/A trim. In turbo trim it is a 2 door. The only heavy Skyline is the R34, and we all know it can keep up with the 2K1 Corvette............

I still love my G.

Dude sometimes I think we were born of the same mother! I told the Subaru dealer straight up, before I bought my G, that if the WRX was available right now he would have sold a car. The RS2.5 didn't really impress me all that much. :(

I too test drove a 2.5RS last October when I was looking for something other than my automatic G20, but they weren't quite fast enough... I really like the styling, and the AWD would be very nice too, but they didn't have enough grunt (and aftermarket support at the time, in the US) So i decided on my current G20. I figured a 2.5rs would need a turbo kit to be very quick, i already know about he SR20, i could turbo the G20 and make it just as fast as the 2.5, and i know about SR20's, so it would be MUCH easier to modify the G. I just wish at the time the 2.5RS had an optional EJ20 :D but then i guess it wouldn't be the 2.5RS and it would be the WRX. DOH!

WRX's are fast but I have faith that I can get my G to be faster......

while the 3000gt and the dodge steaths are heavy they have more then ample power to make up for it. and with all wheel drive, all wheel steering there pretty sweet at high speed crusin. If you beat a 3000gt it wasnt turbo thats for sure my friends rt/tt will bet a vettes and mustangs like there nothin im sure it would have no prob taken a 200sx

Well, the reason I got my G was because of its combination of practicality, reliability and low cost of ownership.

lloyd_nickens

handling is key. When I came back from VA BCH this past weekend a guy in a camero wanted to race. I know that I can't out accelerate him but I could out maneuver him any day. I kinda obliged, showed him that my car can out handle him with its eye closed, and slowed back down to cruising speed. THAT was fun. All I need my baby to have now is a turbo and I'll be able to lay down the smacketh to almost any camero.

that's what i was thinking. the 3kgt vr-4 with intake and this thingy yogs told me about can make 400hp and keep up with a skyline. but the main problem is handeling. not like i'm gonna be racing thou. i'd probably get a 1995-97 (2nd gen) 3kgt. but i saw a g20 today and it looked pretty nice. i'm also kinda diggin those new Tuscanis that Hyundai is making.

frm what i've heard so far, people seems to look down on the 3000GT when in reality, it's basically a Skyline for Mitsus...I bet if I started a thread saying to convince me to buy a G20 over a Skyline, people would think i am crazy for not getting the Skyline. the GTR is just as heavy as the 3000GT VR-4 and with proper tuning, the 3000GT VR-4 will be every bit as fast, if not faster, than a equally tuned Skyline. Granted, the VR-4 is not popular but i think that's mainly due to the V6 of the engine in that it's VERY difficult to work on...unlike the I6 engines where the intake manfold is on the left and turbo on the right.
handling...obviously, it's going to feel a bit big cuz it's a big car (just like the Skyline) but with its massive tires and twin turbo power, it's going to stump G20s on the race track...but it's SUPPOSE to do that cuz it almost doubles the price of a G20.

12-09-2001, 06:04 PM
Haha, straight out of gran turismo. It mentioned that the VR-4 while a nice fast car didn't have the handling prowess and balance that the Skyline had. I haven't driven either so I don't really know. If you can afford more can then get it.
