93 240sx 5spd 120k, needs a front wheel aligned and a front oil seal...but the owner wants $700
what is a front oil seal and howmuch to get one installed???

if its the gasket seal for the oilpan, it shouldn't be too much to install, u can do it urself really, just buy the right gasket, and drain ur oil, then leave it to drip for 5 - 10 minutes, then take out all the screws on the oilpan lip (there should be like 15, i dunno for 240's) then just remove the blown gasket and put on the new one..
i think u can find a guide on the net, this just gives u a ruff idea of the work, its under ur car too, so get a jack or something.
and i think u gotta use a lil silicone on the gasket or something? not sure.. look for a guide.
oh,. and remember to go out and buy the required oil amount for ur engine, cause once its out, dont put the same oil back in, thats duuurtay.

if it's the gasket for the oil-pan, then Ralph is right. i had to replace this on my old Plymouth Sundance and all you have to do is take off the oil-pan, take the old gasket off, put some silicone on there and put the new gasket on and let it dry for a bit, and screw it all back in.
what i think it might be, though, is the rear main seal in the engine. i also had to replace this on my Sundance. in order to replace this, you have to remove the transmission. at least, you did on my Sundance. luckily it was FWD so that didn't prove too hard, but it's still more of a hassle then a simple oil-pan gasket change.

yeah she said she just got the rear seal put on ..so i take it that the front one is up infront of the crankshaft?

if she talking about a rear seal, she probably talkin about the head gasket, since its on the top, as opposed to the oil can being on the bottom..
:confused: i dunno, purely speculation on my part..
i know there are areas that have a round gasket that fits snugly over a piece that goes inside them.. cant remmeber which seal it is or where its located without lookin at a car right now. and u gotta put some HEAVY DUTY loctite on them or else they will still leak... i did it on a minivan once, cant remember where it was though. we used the shit loctite, and it still fucked up after.

front oil seal is a bitch to install. you have to remove all the front belts and the crankshaft pulley.
if you're too cheap to do it just run it with it leaking, won't do much damage... just watch your oil. i did that for around a year.
note: if you do this, also do underdrive pulley by asp and change from belts, only 100 and good performance upgrade

yeah 700...she was selling it for 1000 but she knows my stepmom so shes droping the price to 700..
