RS to be Penalised in Hungary

According to www.F1live.com RS will be penalised 10 grid positions in Hungary. Thus, if he qualifies on pole, he will start the race in 11th. Williams have appealed the punishment, and it is rumored that if the appeal does not work, Marc Gene will be driving in his stead. I don't know how realistic this rumour is (not very, I think) but it is pretty interesting.

Allright!! Montoya will surely churn out a larger lead.

Thats pretty lame of him to throw a fit like that. If the top title contenders fall out and marc wins the race...hes gonna look like a massive tool. Im still waiting to watch my tape of the race to figure out what went on.

Ralf loses $50000 instead of 10 places on the grid. Wish I were in a position to be happy about a decision like that! :( :)

The FIA International Court of Appeal met in Paris on Tuesday, August 19, 2003, to hear the
appeal introduced by the Motor Sports Association Ltd, on behalf of competitor BMW
WilliamsF1 Team, car n°4: driver Ralf Schumacher, against Stewards’ decision No. 41 taken
on August 3, 2003, during the German Grand Prix.
Having heard the explanations of the parties and examined the various documents and other
evidence, the Court confirmed the Stewards’ findings against Ralf Schumacher but
considered that the sanction imposed (a loss of 10 places on the starting grid at his next
Grand Prix) was inappropriate and substituted a fine of 50,000 $US.
It appeared to the Court, in particular from reading the report by Peter Wright (technical and
safety consultant) analysing Accident Data Recorder information, not available to the
Stewards, that some responsibility might possibly be imputed to the other two drivers
involved in the incident. The Court decided that the case should be referred back to the Panel
of the Stewards of the German Grand Prix so that the conduct of Rubens Barrichello and
Kimi Raikkonen can be considered in light of the evidence from Mr Wright.
The International Court of Appeal was presided over by Mr Philippe Roberti de Winghe
(Belgium), and composed of Mr Pedro Romero (Spain), Mr Vassilis Koussis (Greece) and Mr
Harry Duijm (Netherlands).
The full text of the International Court of Appeal's decision is available, on request, from the
Secretariat of the FIA International Court of Appeal in Paris.

I like the verdict, besides never thinking Ralf was at fault, it keeps the c'ship race more exciting. Ten grid position panalty would have in effect canned his chances.

Guys remember, Senna had just as much influence as Schu on FIA decisions. They're smart enough to cater to the stars that sell tickets and tune the fans in on TV.

I respectfully disagree. It would have been a very harsh punishment

My opinion is that is a racing incident with Ralf starting it (yes, I've cooled down in 3 weeks, give me another 6 weeks without F1 and I'll blame this all on Mazzacane). So yes, 10 grid positions would have been too harsh, but I still hate everyone who can be delighted over losing just $50000 :(

Nothing new here, it was all in the FIA press release ;)

And I see every reason to punish KR and RB - afterall, they were doing the unthinkable - driving straight (and even braking in Rubens's case)!!!
