on other boards i go by southernx so don't think this pic isn't mine if you've seen it with that name attatched. this pic was down in Ocala a few weeks back running River Road, thanks to Richard Krenn for the picture it sums up how the whole day was constantly deep water from all the rain we've been getting in Florida this year.

Here's your pic. I think I've seen that trail before (or something like it). You guys sure spend a lot of time in water. Do you have higher than normal alternator failures?

I like this one too. Must be interesting not always knowing where the holes are in those trails.

yeah the water levels are extremely high this year as we have been getting dumped on daily so much for the sunshine state. lol
i haven't heard of anyone having problems with the alternators but it is possible, i clean mine when i get home as well as put a fan style lawn sprinkler under the truck to get the mud off.
we started on River Road i believe it heads to the St. Johns river, this trip the trail was the St. Johns.:iceslolan
that rover in the pic had taken the wrong path everyone else stayed drivers side on that path he corrected about halfway through it, but it was to late he took in a good amout of water inside his cabin.
we had a toyota with 35's ahead scouting the trails for water depth, which helped out a lot as a couple times he was pretty deep in it.

Wow, that is so cool how there is not a drop of water on your X. What kind of wax are you using?

sceptical? go here also and take a look from the other group that went with us. honestly anytime someone does something that others don't believe the favorite scape-goat is someone using photoshop.

And people wonder why Xterra boards are getting so quiet. With all due respect to all the armchair quarterbacks out there, I was there. The water in that photo covered the CalMini rear bumper on my lifted and 32" tire shod X up some 6 - 8" on my spare. The X in question was one of the two smallest trucks in our group (he is basically stock with 31" tires) and he went through that hole with zero b&#$%ing. I sit and wonder how many others would do the same. SouthernX has become one of our staple off-roaders and we would have no qualms whatsoever about taking him to Tellico with us. So please, before you hit a$$hole mode, consider the fact that you weren't there and have NO clue what really went on. Sooner or later you are going to need someone to help you out. If you piss everyone off and that day comes, you will have to eat crow for 2 hours kissing rear to get that help. Do you really want that?
BTW Schlud, I agree with you. He gets on here talking #$%& about others, I want to see his photos. That way we can armchair quarterback him and treat him the same raunchy way he did SouthernX. I am a firm believer in do unto others as they do unto you. Hey, wait a minute, that wasn't how it really went now did it? Maybe it was do unto me as I do unto you. Oh well whatever, it works for me. I am just thankful that the Land Rover owners have more respect for us than the Xterra gods.

Ok. I think we're putting a bit too much energy into this one comment. It's not like he tried to sell back a free set of Calmini gears or anything. :biggrin2:

*sigh*
I love SoCal, but seeing pics like those makes me wish I didn't live here. I love the deep water and mud and all I've seen out here so far is a lot of rocks and dirt. Hopefully I'll be able to see something like in your pics later in the year (only had my X for a few months now).

*Raises hand*
I have new rules for my current X due to the untimely demise of my last one.
1.) Trees are bad.
2.) No rivers.........for at least a few thousand miles

What type of air intakes are you using to almost cover your your hood without sucking water into engine?
OffroadX
11-24-2007, 03:04 PM
Either a snorkel, or taking careful note that the intake is roughly at headlight level while keeping a proper bow wave ahead of the vehicle.

You guys need to consider that on the older Xterra's at least, the ECM sits under the stereo head, on the floor board. That's to close to the floorboard if you fill it with water. Last time I checked, water and circuit boards don't mix. I never go in water that would go above my rocker panels. There's plenty of other obstacles on a trail to tackle than a deep water crossing.
