When you can scrunch a LT1 in!

power isnt the only thing.
there is weight ratio, and there is concern for what u wanna do with ur car.

any type of course racing with lotta turns u should get a SR, although KA's fare pretty well sometimes.

drag racing is vice versa of the course racing.

becuase there is a guy from 240forums.com with a LT1 in his S14 and he got his ass handed to him by a turbo charged v-tec prelude running 8 psi. they did it from a roll and the turbo prelude killed it by over 3 cars. the prelude wasn't even on his high boost setting. bottom line. V8 gets you monster torque. good for off the line jumps. turbos generally gives you better highend. so on the highway when your about to hit full spool, the turbo will take a v8.

edit: lookin at thsoe pictures, lolz thats exactly the same S14 that got beaten. i forgot which name he went under. but he was bragging about how fast he was. makin all sorts of bullshit storys like how he beat a viper and shit. so one guy in a turbo prelude just beat the shit out of him, and everyone called his bullshit storys. anyways, the LT1 is not that powerfull of an engine. they only made like 275ish. not impressed for a v8. and they can only rev to 5.5 -6K

yeah the LT1 Blows unless you've got something that wheighs 4000lbs make it the LS1 from a Z06 and you may have something.

SR20 > LT1

I hate when people drop american big blocks in Japanese cars...this isn't the "good ol days"...Japan has strong engines now and for the most part they are better to stick with than dropping crap in like an LT1. Don't LT1's cost a lot too?

That Darius 240z (or maybe it's Darius' 240z...I'm not sure lol) seems pretty badass though and it has an LT1 in it right? I'm sure a few others have downloaded the series of car videos with that little Datsun with the huge v8 :).

yeah the LT1 in the datsun is crazy..
but whatever, i'll stick with newer jap engines in newer jap cars.

The Prelude hit it's scramble boost in the video, I was there and it was fairly obvious. The LT1 car started in the bottom of 2nd gear on a TH350 transmission with a 3200 rpm stall. If any of you have used this combo before you can imagine just how slow the car will react when it's not locked up. The run was fairly one sided and not as it seems. The prelude would not run from a stop for fear of the LT1 ass raping him.

BTW, for you doubters... the car ran a 9.81 @ 147 mph. I don't forsee the prelude running any faster than that.

And yes, I helped build the LT1 car.

Soon to come:
- MTI 383
- Turbonetics T100
- 2 Spd. Powerglide
- 7s or bust.

9.8 nice!

I still would rather just get an rb25det. Sounds way better and would probly be able to pull the same numbers if it was modified a little.

fine how about an rb26dett with all the mods that the nismo 400r has to give it a 10k redline...then it would be faster than that little v8 :P...especially if you kept the 4wd tranny...1 more gear too

I know 9.8 isn't weak, but it's definitely possible with an rb25...large enough turbo, turbo boost and sticky enough wheels and it will do it...an rb26 with some work could easily kill it...

1. A 400R has a special production N1 series block, it's a 2.8L not a 2.6L
2. Redline does not necessarily dictate how fast a car is... see Honda
3. It's not that easy to just "keep the AWD tranny" you need the tranny, transfer case, front diff, front shafts, forward driveshaft, rear driveshaft, and to change the front end strut/coil setup to a double wishbone skyline GTR design with the hubs incorporating space for the front halfshafts.
4. For an RB25 to run a 9.8 your talking about SERIOUS modifications. Head work, cams, springs, solid lifters, 800+cc injectors, cryo-ed transmission gears or aftermarket replacement, built bottom end, balanced and blueprinted motor, rear differential upgrade, rear ring and pinion upgrade, standalone management, race gas, T67+ sized turbo, intercooler, custom piping, suspension mods, ETC ETC ETC and a serious driver. A damn 400+rwhp SR20 only runs a high 11-sec. quarter mile on drag radials.

9's aren't all about power, it's about delivery and putting it to the ground. The V8 car runs good because unlike most people we actually made the car hook-up. We didn't just throw a bunch of power into it and wonder why it runs a 10.80 @ 162 mph like alot of the Supra owners out there. It's easy to sit around and bullshit about building a car to run 9s, but until you actually do it, it's hard to realize just how hard it is to do.

BTW, I'm not saying it's the fastest thing alive, but its one of the fastest S-chassis cars in the US for certain.

I'm working with a UK team to produce my project car. It'll be an RB26 into my maroon S14 utilizing some high lift Tomei 272s, stock bottom end, and a set of HKS GT-RS turbochargers to the tune of about 700rwhp. I've helped them tune the GTRs with this setup, it wasn't easy since we had to work around some surge issues with the lower boost settings but we are making progress.

I believe the parts to make it have a 10k redline are available for the standard rb26dett...not just the rbx block that the 400r uses. Yes high redline doesn't mean shit sometimes, but I'm not talking about a little 4 cylinder, it's an inline 6 and a damn good one at that. I just think it's better than an LT1...not just drag racing, but reliability and useable power.

And it is possible to keep the AWD setup...just takes a lot of money. I'm not sure if it's already been done, but I'm sure with enough custom work it could be and with 4 wheels spinning rather than 2...that alone would make the LT1 weaker if they both put out similar horsepower.

I was kidding anyways...I don't care about drag racing. It may involve skill, but I hate how reaction time is all the driver really is trying to master. The rest is mostly setup and some skill at shifting properly and applying the right amount of throttle. Auto-X is what I want to do once I get a decent car....seems to be a lot more fun.

If your gonna do Auto-X I suggest a 13B-T rotary motor.

sorry...but i have to say yuck lol...

If I get a 240 I'm dropping in an sr20 (red top) probly and if I get an mr2 I'm just going to modify the 3s-gte stock turbo motor. Rotaries might be better for performance, but for reliability and durability I'll go with a piston engine anyday. Either car I pick will probly be my daily driver also...so maybe autox isn't the best idea until I can afford a second car...

It's alright. I have a lot of respect for someone who likes the rebuild their engines every 60k . Just kidding I know a lot don't have that much problems...and they can be very reliable. Just not my cup of tea :).

I haven't known a lot of people who are rotary fans, but they are pretty cool. They sound really fucked up though. There's this pizza delivery guy around here with a baby blue metallic first gen. Stock exterior and I think stock engine, but not sure...stock or moded it sounds really wierd either way...

What about the VQ? The VQ30 only weighs 108lbs minus accessories.

VQ or VG??? damn people, learn your abbreviations. VQ30 would be the FWD Maxima motor from the last few 3-litre generations. the newest Maxima/G35/350Z engine is the VQ35. the old 300ZX motor, if that's what you meant, is VG30.

No, I meant VQ. Trust me, I own one. I don't know how much the VQ35s weigh, so I just used the VQ30's weight for a ballpark figure.

There are also rwd VQ30DETs available from the JDM Cedric and Gloria. I saw one for as low as $995. The VQ25DET makes '276hp,' so you know the 3L is making even more.

Those engines are all V8s.

VH45DE(278hp)- 1st gen Q45
VH41DE(266hp)- 2nd gen Q45
VK45DE(315-345hp)- 3rd gen Q45, M45 and FX45.

The VK was previously known as the ZH. I think I remember hearing at Freshalloy that the VH may fit, but no one really wanted to do it, since they really wanted the VK instead.

The problem you run into isn't length, it's width. The V8 has about 1" clearance and it has a narrow head compaired to the OHC motors since it has a OHV setup.

dont be dissing the car because it has the LT1. Show some respect when its due. His screenname is Aries in other forums and he will be more than happy to disgrace you and your friends. Given it costed him alot of money, it was a project for him to enjoy, to have a damn fast UNIQUE car without getting the rbs like so many other people.
How many sub 10 seconds 240s are out there? I doubt any of you do.

klohiq
08-04-2003, 11:30 PM
Ah I see...Now I understand why I didn't recognize those engine abbreviations.

Anyone know how much it cost him? And we aren't "dissing" him (for the most part at least ) we are just saying we don't like the idea of american engines in japanese cars. Just like if I saw a Porsche 911 with an LT1 engine in it (not about to argue the feasibility or anything...just follow the idea not how it would work) I wouldn't like it even if it was faster than the original german engine.

I'm sure if you dropped an RB inside a nice C5 corvette domestic enthusiasts would hate the idea...even more so if you dropped an SR20...I can just imagine it now "4 cylinder < 8 cylinder...aka tat kar is krap"...blah

i dont kno how much it costed him, but hes always on at the NICO forum. you could ask him there. I agree i dont like hybrids. Nissans should stick with Nissan engines. Toyota with Toyota engines. Mazda with Mazda engines. But to have a 240 fly that fast in the 1/4 mile is something.

Personally I think being unique is good, but it depends how you are unique. Doing something that has never been done before is unique, but it's a little different than the unique I like. I think it's cool when someone takes a lot of other ideas and makes something that everyone else while trying to do the next big thing overlooks. When someone else throws a bigger v8 into the 240 and pulls off better 1/4 mile times very few will remember this LT1 powered car. Style is remembered usually, but uniqueness fades over time.

Everyone tries to do the next big thing, but it's the little things that really change the industry over time.

First off we put a computer controlled LT1 in a 240SX. Don't see too many of those running around, in fact... I haven't seen ANY apart from our car. Our ability with a wrench is better than most, and we aren't afraid to tackle projects.

s13gtr, you re not the only one that has a RB26 in his car. im assuming you havent frequented the NICO board? there are other owners there that would love to have a meet and just hang out. sides, if you kno cameron, or nightxc777, ask him for other owners that has the rb26 in their car. Unfortunately, if you know cameron, you also know he gipped more than 7 people of their money, bout 3000 from each person, so hes in hiding at AZ so i dont think he would be answerin phones to tell you of other rb26 owners. those who dont kno night, he knows a shitload bout the rbs, and people purchased rbs from him, but he hasnt delivered cuz his importer, Rob from JTC, hasnt delivered. and now Nights getting reamed. thats my opinion.

but funny.. for some reason i thought RB26 had to be customed to single turbo to fit 240s cuz of the steering column was in the way? so technically speaking it would be an Rb26det, not dett. i m not here to fight with you, im just curious whether yours has 1 or 2 turbo.

reading that closed thread, one thing i have to say. You have to get a CUSTOM DRIVESHAFT for the rb26. s13, even ask Night, he will tell you that you need custom driveshaft. go to the website below, and you would see Night posting that you need a custom driveshaft, assuming admins didnt delete it.

http://www.nissaninfiniticlub.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=135

that site has TONS of people that HAVE RB26 in their car for awhile now and will be happy to provide any information with you guys. Also, any mention of a meet and they try to show up so if you want real LIVE proof, go to one of the meets.

Damn I wish. . . it'd going to be a little while before i can actually afford it. .

That's impressive that it still handles like KA!! That is truly awesome. .

I've got an S14. . . do you think he'd be able to work around that? Or would an S13 be a better platform?

Ok, Your point? Hmm... Lets see why i said what i did.

"yeah the LT1 Blows unless you've got something that wheighs 4000lbs"

:bloated: That would be like me saying... "Yeah the RB engines suck unless you got something thats 4500lbs"

See? Makes absolutely no sense.

And...

"make it the LS1 from a Z06 and you may have something."

:eek7: If you knew anything about F/Y Bodies you would know that the LS1s are only in 98-02 F-bodies and C5 'Vettes, NOT the Z06... The Z06 has the LS6 engine. Dont assume that Im in here to preach about how great the 03 SVT engine is. Everyone SHOULD know its a powerful engine so, again your point? I was just browsing through the forums and then saw your post. If theres anything I hate more is people giving off biased, misinformation to other people which seems to be plenty of it throughout this board. :sly:

Im not an a-hole and im not "preaching" domestics. I happen to like the 240sx alot even though it gets tiring seeing it on SuperStreet/Import Tuner over and over and over again with the same damn CF hood and "Drift" wing/body kit. Im probably one of the most unbiased domestic driver so dont go around ASSuming Im in here to BS the imports. :sly:
