I am so sick of all the hype around the 240sx now days. When I'm driving or am at a show I'm not even entered in, I constantly have new drivers or ricers coming up to me asking insane questions such as "Why don't you drop in an RB26DETT???", "is this one of those drifting cars?" or "can you do an 11 sec quarter??" The 240 is becoming the new civic in imports today. Because of those magazines (you know the ones I'm talking about) saying that the 240 is the most fun and easiest thing to fix up, everyone's jumping on the bandwagon. I in no way regret making my choice to purchase a 240, it's just a little disheartening when the 15 yr old girl down the street asks for one from her daddy,gets a 3000 body kit, then paints it purple and is the "coolest" thing around at her high school. There are few people who still respect the car for what it is: a nice, affordable RWD starter with great potential. Anyone else feel similarly?

me. i fucking hate it. read my post in one of the other threads for more details, but i just hate how i have loved the car for so long when nobody else did, and now right when i'm finally able to get my own, it becomes a huge fad and i'm not unique anymore. like i've said many times before, i will still buy a 240SX and will still do everything to it that i've been planning to do for years now, but i still hate how it's becoming so popularized. but fuck what the crowd's doing and fuck what the trend is. i build my car to make ME happy, not them or anyone else.

Don't drive yet, probably won't be driving a 240 when I do get my license...but I still have a high respect for this car. Every so often I see some S13's around here...they aren't nice, they have lame thumping systems and huge rims with a fat APC muffler. Fuck all that. If your going to ruin a sacred car like this, why don't you just leave it fucking stock. It also pisses me off that people think a riced car is the hot shit, when in reality, the die-hard import fans will say a stock Silvia S13 is nicer, and those faggot "cool kids" will laugh at us. Its so fucking gay what the import scene has transformed into. You all know the kids that come here and show off there 240's with ugly ass "fang" kits. They get flamed from us, but you know there cocky friends think it the hottest ride in town. Fuck them and fuck all the import fans to come.

Fuck people who jump on the 240sx bandwagon because its trendy. But also fuck people who have a "holier than thou" attitude because their car is RWD; as if they are 10x cooler because they drive a 240sx A guy in a stock 240sx isnt any cooler than a guy in a stock civic. Its what YOU do WITH your car that makes you cool or not cool. (btw, "with" is not synonymous with "to")

Oh, you say your 240sx is better for racing because it can handle well? Alright then, tell me what tracks you have been to and what hot-laps you have run. Wait, you've never been to a race track? Not even auto-x? But your car is cool because it can drift? So then I'll be seeing you in the next local D1 event right? No?

I see all this bickering about the 240 going mainstream.. It's the unofficial mantra of the 240/nissan purist. Just don't worry about it. All the trendy will have their clear tails and LEDs, but the real machine will be with the enthusiasts, and they can tell the difference in the end. Fuck everyone else.

Just let the fad pass I say. All the trendy people will realize they don't know what they are doing and the diehards will still be in the game. Personally, I believe things will be settled on the track. The posers will be seperated from the real enthusiasts. It is all too common to see a guy with a swap that doesn't know the first thing about driving. Not to say I'm a good driver, far from it, but I've been road racing for quite awhile and have much to learn. At least the car is no longer in production and with the rate that people are crashing their cars these days, I expect my car to become more rare.

i don't see what being cool has to do with anything if you're avoiding the trend and being yourself about it.

The only car i'd put a bodykit on is in my sig i'm starting to think being subtle is better. Like Bodykits available for the Skyline are mostly but ugly and the fast ones don't have stupid over done bodykits anyway. They just have Carbon diffusers and Rear Spoiler.

If i went with trend in England i'd be driving a 125hp 16v 1.6 liter Citroen Saxo with Euros and Neons but i'm not going to fucking do that because FRENCH SHIT BOXES ARE BUTT UGLY.

Incidently i subscribed to SuperStreet (i kinda wish i hadn't) i read the articles but it seems to be only the Articles about Japanese vehicles in Japan.

I will just make my 240 when i get mine that is.. to what i want, and drive it for a good few years... and of course pay to get into a race track and have some fun.. i am not planning for a sr swap, maybe just put in a newer ka... something i think is less trendy

who cares if an SR is trendy? it's a good engine and that's why i want one for my car, i don't care how many people already have them.

but you know what? i bet the SR is so popular over here now that there's not many parts that you would have to order for. just go to an SR supplier in the States and you'd probably find what you need, or there's always eBay. when the SR was first getting popular over here, sure you'd have to wait for a while for parts, but now, i bet it would be the same as normal.

there are 4 or 5 US shops that carry SR20 parts over KA parts.. so that tells u something.

Yes there are plenty of parts available for the sr20 that are interchangeable from other nissan motors. LOL, how many of you actually have a 240sx here? I see alot of avatars and sigs with 240s in them, but not many actual owners.

True as that may be, it will be a more beautiful day when you finally find one... I can't speak from experience because I don't have an SR20DET but, I will be very happy when I do finally get one, not because I wanna jump on the bandwangon, I just want performance, as most of us do.. or there would be no such things as H22's in Civics and K20's in Eks(yes, it has been done, I know that they turn in different directions) or even SR20s and CA18's in RMS13's....

Unfortunately there will always be trends that we are going to hate- nothing is worse than ricers who look down on the real enthusiasts- who think they have some nerve calling themselves enthusiasts- Ricers don't like cars- they like using thier cars to look trendy- simple as that. Personally I don't blame people using Silvia's for show purposes- the Silvia is a damned nice looking car- and looks nice when given tasteful treatment- but when people start saying thier stock engined show cars with an APC fart-can is fast- THAT's where the line must be drawn. Soon enough a new movie about Muscle cars will come out and the Ricers will go I want a Stang/Camaro y0! then by a V6 F-Body/Stang and rice those out somehow and we'll be free to love our imports again :bigthumb:

It does suck for us people that love the 240. I've wanted a 240 for such a long time it isn't funny, I managed to get one for my first car! One of the reasons i liked it so much was that you rarely saw a 240 on the road, now there are people who see you and just figure you hopped on the bandwagon.
At the same time though, I'll do what I want to do to my car. If someone with a honda thinks i hopped on the 240 bandwagon, fuck him I'll meet him at the nearest red light and see what his 14 foot high spoiler does for him.:thefinger

Trends come and go. Remember back in the mid 90's when hacking was a craze and now it still is done a lot but it's not really trendy to say you're a hacker. Same thing happened with skaters/bladers/bmx and everyone wanted to be tony hawk or some crap. Happens with everything...no matter how much you try to keep it a secret.

This will come and go and yes this forum contributes to the popularity, but Super Street and magazines like that are the ones that make it a fad. This forum just introduces more people to the cars. I've learned a lot from these forums in the short time I've been here. I was a 240sx freak before I came and I still am.

Yeah, I've noticed the trend too. I've been writing stories about racing, and I wanted my main character to have a car that was a bit of an underdog. In the first part, he has a 2nd gen CRX. For the second, he gets an S14.
Now, I guess the 240s are hyped up, so now the choice won't seem so odd to everyone...darn.:redface:

Ok for my first post this will be a good one. I have been an onlooker too long for this bull shit. I cannot believe some of the shit i have seen on automotive forums. I have loved the 240 for quite a while now but haven't known much about it. Recently I have read up on the 240 and have found out almost as much as you can know without owning one. I hate that the 240 forum has so many retards in it and that is why i havent posted a stupid question yet. I would rather look it up. :comprage1 I finally have a chance to get a 240 soon and I dont care what the fuck everyone else does because i am going to make my car look good and fast. And yes i want to learn how to drift but this has been something i have wanted to do for a while.

I feel your pain Iketani but think about how easy parts will be to get here when the sr is something everyone does. I wasnt even planning on getting an SR, but if what you guys say is going to happen, all the ricers will get one, then i might get one because it will be easier to find parts because the ricers are too fucking stupid to do anything for themselves and then soon it will be cheaper.

I say who gives a fuck if a ricer wants to sit on the side of the road and watch me drive fast in my stock 240 when he has all kinds of stupid plastic shit on his car and a SR under the hood.

It is what you do with your car that makes it the car, not what is on it, so let the ricers take the SR and run with it. AND yes someone is a ricer if they get a fucking SR and dont ever go over 45 on the the street and 55 on the highway, and never goes to any events besides Hot Import Nights and related events.

The way this "Fad" is looking we just might end up like a Fucking Honda civic... people just buying the car because of all the hype around it. I do feel, for the real all engine JDM Civics. (ek9, eg6, ek4, etc...) I just dont want to pull into a parking lot. Where a 16 year old kid has the same car I have but with his APR Stickers all over it, and his Walmart Cold Air Intake, and so on... I am so glad they stopped making our cars for that reason. the 240 will never comand the popularity as much as a Civic. NEVER. the fact of the matter is that the Civic is cheap to get and plentiful. the 240's never even reached the 500K sales mark. the most sales happened with the S13 and the 95 S14. other than that is was less than 10K in sales. next is the engine choices. look at 240's and think of engines...RB, KA, SR, CA. these drop in nice but compared to a Civic or any honda...shit it is endless and plus you can use heads and what not from other motors. you can't use a RB head for a SR or a SR head for a KA. the price for our cars is too much for what can be easily done for the Civic. just give it a year or so and it will be all gone and the ricers will be back with the Civics.
